458 new owner questions

    Hey everyone, I sold my manual 430 and got a 458. Everything appears to be functioning properly ands it’s a blast to drive. I did install a Forza valve control that makes the car sound way better but I don’t plan to do any other modifications. I will be completing a major (plugs/belt/fluids/ect) just to be safe and start my own maintenance timeline. PPI was clean on this car, is there anything that I should be addressing prior to enjoying spirited drives? Brake fluid and oil were done 5 months ago. Do you all have suggestions for fluids? I used motul products on my last car for oil and gearbox. Anyone know of motor mount recommendations, they don’t seem like they’re failing but the car is a 2012. The f430 seemed to have a lot of discussions on the motor mounts but I don’t see much for a 458. I appreciate everyone’s input, happy holidays.

    Most complaints I have seen are transmission problems (mostly pre-2012), soft touch button coating turning sticky (try not to leave the car parked in the sun on warm days), and the great brake recall. Hopefully the PPI would say if yours had the recall service done already.
    The previous owner had done a valve controller on mine, and it's fun but mostly I leave it quiet in my neighborhood, especially early in the morning!
    These are great cars, just drive and enjoy!

    Thank you! The recall was completed and the buttons are decent but I know over time I’ll have to address it.

    CV boots+grease, 10 years is max on those (regardless of miles), the grease will age out and start to cake up and eventually separate, leading to eventual CV joint failure. Waiting for the boots to tear or the grease to leak out otherwise first is a fools errand.

    Cheap insurance.

    Like you, I recently got my 458, and also like you, I want to start my own maintenance timeline.

    I used Pennzoil 5-40 for oil, motul 300LS for gear, motul DCTF High torque for trans. Doing trans and diff smoothed out my trans.

    It’s good to know motul is still a good option, trans and diff is my next task!

    you are on the right track. i always like doing all the fluids immediately so you have a fresh starting point. i have a 2012 and never had issues with motor mounts

    What is the age of the tires?
    Are the lug bolts torqued correctly - 100psi?

    Motul for all fluids is an excellent brand of products. I've used Motul in my track cars for years.

    I don't have a 458, never have owned one but everyone here speaks like it's the last great Ferrari ever produced ;-) Enjoy your car...need some interior photo's too!

    From what I see the motor mounts are pretty sold on the 458. Car has 22k on it, a little high on the miles so I’ll look them over and all the other suggestions so far. The CV boots look good but will likely address them due to age. Let me know other suggestions. I did notice the binnacle leather is in great shape but the actual supporting plastic is a little warped or has a few areas it does not fit ideal. Anyone have some gap issues with that? Can you use a little heat to mold it back (might be a terrible idea)? I might not worry about it if it’s typical. Thanks

    Ya know, for ages I was torquing at 74 ft.lbs and then i read on hear that folks were doing 100 ft.lbs...

    I've read that too. This kind of over-torquing is how cars that have wheel inserts (like 355s) get them broken.
