458 passenger, side airbag recall?

This is probably still the Takata thing that first launched about 18 months ago - multiple threads

 

Yes, this is real. It may have taken that long to track him down, acquire enough replacement inventory, .... who knows? I would call the dealer and make sure they can do it, then arrange for them to flat bed the car to and from, at their expense. Give the dealer some incentive to be cooperative by having them do the annual service while they’re at it.

Have the recall work performed ASAP. I’d post a photo of what an airbag (brand name withheld) did to my left wrist but it’s a bit too graphic to show.

Got a letter, not from my dealer but straight from Maranello, to have the passenger's airbag replaced. Car was built 2011, new airbag under recall campaign fitted in 2017. Got the letter little over a year after buying the car. From my personal experience, nothing from Maranello is quick, but still 3 years seems and exaggeration.

I also just received this recall for my 2013 458. Will get it done in the next service visit.

 

Anyone know if this recall affects 2014 458s?

It's an official service dated July 2017 ... called Call Back # 60 of the Passenger Airbag.

Every owner should have gotten this official document through their dealer. Your VIN is in that letter.

The timing of the letter is dictated to the manufacturer or distributor (in this case FNA) by NHSTA.

A very informative presentation was a part of the recent FNA National Dealer meeting this March.

I actually received the notice this weekend (in the mail) from Ferrari NA that the passenger front airbag needs to be replaced on my 2013 458. Talked to the dealer today and they will replace it when it goes in for service.

Dave - I'm surprised that your buddy didn't get a notice for the front airbag.

That's also in line with the info I got at my dealer when my 458 was in for its yearly scheduled maintenance: 2010 and 2011 cars only. Dealer entered my VIN and confirmed the need for the airbag replacement. Don't know if it affects different production years on other models, like the California or the FF for instance.

Will do Dave. I just ran my VIN on the NHTSA sight and it said that my vehicle had no recalls. I will verify with dealer and send you a text.

I got the notice for my 2013 as well. No way I'm taking it in just for that, and I hope it's not an issue.

 

Just ran my 2013 and the NHTSA website came back "0 recalls."
