they're on the down, I didn't expect it and personally think they are an all time great but it's not about me - it's about what the younger generation etc thinks

The only reason the 458 is experiencing any type of drop is due to the macroeconomic pressures on this segment of the market.
IE many people who could “afford” a 200k 458 a year ago are barely making rent today. So it’s natural that 200k car drops to 180k or 160k during these times. It’ll never, however, drop to 100k.

As a whole, I expect 458’s to, in the short term hold firm/depreciate very slightly, in relation to what’s about to happen to the price of assets generally. After the storm, maybe 2025/2026, when the market picks back up, great condition gems will only appreciate.

”There are lots of 458’s produced they will never be rare”
They build a lot of houses too, and the most desirable and limited supply houses in any market hold their value in any financial environment. So if you’ve got a yellow 40k mile base seats no carbon 458, I’m sorry but expect it to be at the bottom of the pile, and if you need to sell in the next 24 months, you’re gonna eat dirt. The cherry low mile full option desirable color cars, just like their peers in housing, will always be in demand and always sell for a premium.

If you’re in this for investment purposes, wrap your 5k mile fully optioned Rosso Fuoco 458 in a bubble, plug it in, and after the forthcoming asset implosion, it will be one of the most in-demand 2010’s exotics ever. Certainly the most in demand of the mass produced models across any manufacturer.
    Just my 2c of course.

A lot of people talk about a pending "implosion" on car forums for certain models. I have read this in the past though other ecomonic cycles and yes some things get hurt for a year but a lot of what people think will fall to the dirt never really does.
I don't have the time to go look again, but what happened in 2008 to exotic cars? Which ones still faired well and why? Hummm ;-)

  5. If you're in the market for a 458, and actually plan to drive the thing when you buy one, then you should hope the market is going down, and continues to go down.

Bingo. Once the chaos begun, they dropped like rocks. Total paperweights.
And once balance was restored, as with all markets, the cream rose to the top once again while the less desirable assets had a rougher path back.

458’s have yet to experience *any* major depreciation scenarios. There is always demand. A clear signal the car is a winner in terms of value.
It won’t be immune to what’s coming, but it will weather the storm just fine and be up and up once again after the storm.

I’m not too sure that applies much anymore.
Would think the early cars that had issues, they are repaired by now.

As you well know, take your time searching for one that exceeds your expectations. It’s too easy overreacting and settle for second best. Than regret a bit in the future.

i personally wouldn’t set a time period to purchase one. Keep the monies planned in 5.5% treasuries, and when the right one comes up, you can pursue.

I won't speculate on what will happen in the coming months and years. But I bet they do pretty well over the longer term. Clean styling, last mid-engined NA V8, first DCT. #FutureClassic

the problem is it just takes one issue. I was reading about a dash screen went bad on a 458 and it turned out to be the radio or a hard drive inside… $13k to ferrari if no warranty. A few options for some diy for cheaper but you have to remove it and ship it to china or syracuse.. I went hunting for a discontinued nav screen for a 2014 gt500 the other day… $179! Some have said to not own a ferrari without a warranty…. That’ll take you well past $300k for full bumper to bumper though.. I think back to 2014.. cars were certainly high quality by then.. i just hope the leather problems, stickies,.. is the only shortcuts.

Get the one you want. The search is long, but fun, and no one will get hurt buying a 458. But I have seen maybe two more since I bought my Spider in 21 w my options. If you see yours, GET IT. Full stop.

So who here as bought one pre-covid? IMO, they will never lose for us buyers. Here's my window sticker, and I bought her for $194k w/ 4k on the clock early March '20, juuuuuust before COVID really took hold here. Also, I am only the second owner. It also came w/ the original rims and tires and I wound up selling the Forgiato setup for $4k, before I painted the stocks and slapped them on, therefore it cost me $190k. Here's the before and after, the Forgiato's looked sweet but the 21/22s in NYC metro area were bone jarring, they had to go! I personally like the stocks in black better anyway.

    Sargepug,

I purchased my 2015 Italia mid-December, 2019… a couple of months before Covid hit. It has been an awesome experience for this first time Ferrari owner!

Well equipped 2015, but not maxed out…Sticker price new was ~ $303,600, not including Ferrari Collection rims, Titanium lugs and Cavallino centre hub (~$20k additional) or the PPF. Mileage was 8,691 when bought, 25k now. Two owners IIRC.

I’ve had it for nearly four years with no issues… Since I bought my 458, I categorise my life in two distinct parts:

    1.) Before Ferrari…

    and

    2.) After Ferrari…

    Guess which category I prefer?

When I was eighteen years old, I lived behind a Ferrari dealership for five years. One day, I mustered up the courage to stop by the dealership and go inside. I was driving a $1,200 beater at the time that a breakers yard would reject.

I was admiring a 308 GTS and a salesman came up to me and asked if I would like to examine it more closely. I was standing about ten feet away from it at the time and I mumbled something incoherent about it being a “Ferrari” and I could never afford it…

He said, “If you work hard, one day you will be able to afford it. When you do, come back in and see me.” We chatted for a few minutes as I more closely examined it and I thanked him for his time. I never forgot those few minutes that sparked my love of all things Ferrari…

Forty-five years later, I bought my first Ferrari. It will not be the only Prancing Horse in my stable.

    Cheers!

Outstanding buy….looks like new and the stock wheels in gloss black look way better than those Forgiotto wheels in 21/22 looking like wagon wheels …lol

Like that famous Porsche 911 commercial where the kid goes in after school and the sales guy asks him if he wants to sit in it and the kid when he’s done says “ I’ll see you in about 20 years” . Great story !

I read a few times I won’t be hurt buying a 2014 spider red/tan with good miles. My dealer told me I can probably always get 10% below market from them. I dunno, seems price is flat to down last few months.. so is that just price of admission? Market-10%-taxes? What’s a clearer definition of “won’t get hurt owning a 458”?

I think really any year as long as it has decent interior exterior colors and not something weird. Some obvious options are a must as well. I’ve seen a few with no shields and paint to sample ugly colors. They sit on the market forever even at low prices. Outside of that if you bought pre-2020 you’re golden in my opinion.

I think the better way to look at is you won’t lose as much buying a decent miles / options 458. It is not necessarily a money making opportunity at this current market. You can drive it, enjoy it, and the relatively minor loss is well worth the price of admission. When I bought mine pre-covid I told myself I’m writing off 20-30k in my head and to just enjoy the car. Things turned out differently fortunately but nobody saw that coming. Imagine if you bought and SF90 last year. You lost 300-500k in 12 months!
