My 2013 458 started producing blue smoke at start-up recently. The longer it sits, the more smoke it makes. The dealer says this is a known problem (#6) cylinder, and that no corrective action is required.
    Has anyone else encountered this?

Blue smoke is oil burning, should have an odor to it as well... This usually happens "the longer it sits"/cold start and many Porsche owners know this through direct experience with their horizontally opposed cylinders in their cars.

After running for a minute, the smoke and smell will clear out.

If this is just at start up some of the rings are not sealing properly with the barrels; if it were in hot reductions then valve seals.

Quite normal, one good reason to drive the car often!

Quite common....if your going to start it up and not drive it, let it run for 5 min or so before shutting it off...do that and no smoke smoke show...

My 12 Italia did that too, but not the Speciale nor my Spider.

My 2013 Spider doesn't do that. I do 'exercise' the car in a spirited manner, though no track time and I've never had the smoke issue.

On startup the cylinders get injected with a small amount of oil..not noticed when driven or at idle for awhile...if the car is started then shut down with out the small amount of oil burning off, by the third or fourth time or so the acumulated oil burns off...

My 2015 Speciale has done it a few times. It has 1,800 miles on it. And it often sits for 3+ months between drives. I spoke to the dealer and was told this is completely normal for all 458's, including the Speciale.

My 2013 Italia never smokes. It usually runs so clean you can breath the exhaust.
