    Hi all...
For some 200 odd Ferrarista's from AU and NZ we witnessed the 458 Speciale.....what an awesome icon in the making....great looks, fantastic sound and performance to match (sub 3 sec 0-100Klm
Lets not forget where it all started with some of the predecessors...Challenge Stradale, Scuderia, etc....notably the 355 Challenge was missed (behiind the scenes)......
Apologies for the sub par (focus challenged) images...pardon the pun

The owners son of the yellow CS is a member of this forum. He has posted pics of his dads car before, tho the plates are different to the link above so it might of switched hands.

I liked this EVO review of the Speciale

    you are kidding I hope.

Where it started was the infield at Fiorano parked over with unsold 348's, so they created the challenge series to shift cars.

The run-out special was invented in Detroit in the late 50's (I think the Studebaker Golden Hawk would qualify as a prime example) and usually involved a bit more performance and new badges. Sound familiar?

No I m not :) You are referring to the challenge cars (as you have noted) and the 348 SS (US only) not the GTC...check your facts :p

And don't quote me Keith Bluemel he hasn't got a clue ;)

Make up your mind. It was either invented in the 50s or with unsold 348s, but not both.

Doesn't always go that way, though. Ferrari decided to make the 308 slower and less desirable as they went along...

But with 360CS, Scud, 599GTO, and probably 458 Speciale, yes, a bit more performance and new badges does seem to make them much more valuable.

Same with the 355. 2.7 was faster than 5.2

Even I don't believe you really believe that urban myth. I suspect you are trying to wind me up...

There is no actual evidence anywhere of that being the case. No dyno runs, no performance figures, no factual real world evidence of any kind.
What there is though, is a lot of utter garbage on internet forums from the '95 worshippers who want to believe the legend.

Not exactly, while the 2V injected was slower than the original carbed V8, the subsequent 308 QV improved on carbed performance, and the 3.2 went even better.
Ferrari were forced to go injection for emissions compliance, and it also cured the fuel surge issue....

Carbed versions were "supposed" to have 255HP and the 308QV 240HP which was 25HP more than the 2V FI 308 but I can clearly remember Horse roaring past my GT4 down the back straight at Darlington Park with 15HP "less"
