Would you buy a 458 Speciale over a 488 GTB? And why? I am not sure on which one to buy! Thank you
Yes. Timeless collectible. Last and most powerful naturally aspirated V-8. Pininfarina design vs inhouse Ferrari design. Better sound and more dramatic. The 488 will depreciate like normal. That said, the 488 obviously a cutting edge car. So it depends on what you are in for.
Couldn't agree more. Alwasys the Speciale. It's just a great car and more edgy than a 488 Gesendet von iPad mit Tapatalk
Owned Italia and a Speciale. Only one I'd buy again is Italia honestly. Probably spider. But I have a slot for a 488 spider this year and may go that route. I see myself always coming back to a NA either 458 or F12 TDF.
Speciale. Don't even hesitate. In a few years nobody will even remember the 488 GTB IMHO. The Speciale is a special Ferrari.
If you drive the car regularly, both will depreciate, the 488 more than the speciale. If you want the latest and greatest then 488, if you want a more track oriented vehicle and na experience get the speciale
The speciale is a tough act to follow. When Raffaele de Simone introduced the new 488 GTB to journalists he said 'first I want you to forget the speciale'...
I just didn't love it. Mostly due to loss of high pitch exhaust vs italia as ferrari prepared for the 488 sound "letdown". I was not a fan of ssc either. Esp for the street.
Your Speciale must have had a stock exhaust. I wasn't happy with the OEM exhaust sounder either. But I knew there was a solution this Marlboro livery Speciale has straight pipes and I believe Frequency Intelligence back box. Totally transforms the sound of a Speciale. Too extreme for me, but nothing sounds better IMHO. For me I just replaced the OEM cats with 200 cell cats and kept the OEM back box. Much better sound...more aggressive. https://youtu.be/3skeFbZV8RU
That may be true initially but in 10-15 years when many of the Speciales crash or aren't properly maintained and there aren't as many, having I run good condition with like 30-45k miles will still fetch a nice amount. The 488 gtb/spider won't have that distinction.
Have owned a 458 Spider and currently an Aperta - for me the Aperta is in a different league to my old spider. Doesn't really matter though because I don't think you can go wrong with any of the 458 variants - it's a brilliant model in whatever guise.
I see, made some offers to a few speciales in Ferrari Beverly hills/los angeles. One of them was probably yours. Yea I figured I would have to mod the exhaust to enjoy the car more if i get one. Im a sound guy myself since I hardly track but drive my cars regularly in the street
If I had a Speciale it would be a long term keeper. One of the best cars Ferrari ever made? Keeper for sure.
That Speciale sounds amazing but wow those brakes sound completely beat.. 488 has it's own sound -still beautiful but not as raw or high pitched as speciale. Two different sound experiences.
The Speciale I am looking at the color is a mat finish in aluminum opaco with no stripes. No stripes and mat finish does it mean the kiss of death for resale?
I don't think so. One of my Speciales has no Shields. I was told by a few people that having no Shields on the car is the kiss of death. Turns out plenty of people actually LIKE the cleaner look. I have no intention of selling the car, so I really don't care either way. Bottom line: Buy what YOU want. Don't worry about buying what the next guy wants.
I don't think that any Speciale would be the kiss of death. Finishes are all a matter of personal preference. if you love the car and it will be a keeper for you, then all that matters is what you like. It sounds like you're unsure about the car, so I would suggest finding a spec that you love. Resale shouldn't be in the equation, unless you plan on a quick flip. In the case of a quick flip, your better off getting a 488!
Speciale over 488 for every reason except if cushy leather seats are a priority for you in a Ferrari!
