Agreed. Ferrari really needs to hire a new photographer for their press shots.

True that Ferrari press shots are invariably poor but... I really feel the marketing department have been allowed too much influence in this one. The bottom line here is that the 458S is no faster than a stock 458 with sticky tires. All the price premium is therefore going on what? Why all the fancy bodywork? Why the irrelevant active aero? Why bother with less weight and a touch more power if the marketing boys are going to throw an artificial anchor around the cars neck to preserve a meaningless F12 performance advantage? I don't get it and I feel sorry for all 458S future owners who are not going to be allowed to experience the true performance potential that this car could deliver.

It seems you know more than all us about this car.Did you already test her?Pls tell us more..This would help as future owners:)
It seems you prefer to judge the 5th Beethoven's Symphony looking at the pic attached while I would suggest to take a look at the whole video.Sorry for my English but I am sure you catch what I mean..and the differences.

The Speciale has more power, less weight, much better aero and more advanced electronics. Ii would beat a standard 458 easily even on the same tyres.

The quoted Fiorano lap times don't support your view... Either you're wrong or the quoted lap time is BS. I honestly don't know the answer- I hope you're right, but the marketing boys don't seem to want that to be the case.

Of course it won't just be the lap time. It will be the feel and whole experience.
Had the same debate with the m3 vs csl when that first came out . The reality, it was not just the tyres, in feel they were a world apart. Not sure i would rather a 458 on roids this time around. So good as standard...

I guess but a Scud is much faster around a track than a regular 430. Is the 458S similarly faster than the 458 Italia? (I'm too lazy to look up the quoted lap times on Ferrari's track)

    Cool "pics".

I have to agree, a simple change to that cheesy horsey area in the front (it draws too much attention to that vs some of the cool flowing lines) and CF mirrors and changing the rocker panel wings to an inlet are simple choices/changes that make the car beautiful to my eye. (unlike many here I like it as is too, but these changes - which won't happen from the factory obviously - sure finish it up for me!)

I agree with this. And I would not give Centro Stile a pass by arguing that the styling was dictated by aerodynamics. There are styling elements on this car that are simply incompatible with the base 458. I just hope that they do better on the 458 replacement, which will not be a "graft" on to an existing design.

Having said this, the performance data released to date are encouraging, and the car should provide a rewarding experience for those who want the edge and rawness offered by the 458S.

I think the real problem here, is that many f-chatters are better at appreciating these new model Ferraris from a 2D picture than I could ever be able too.

For me a Ferrari is a large 3D object, so no 2D picture can do it justice. That is why I always wait until I see one in the flesh before I make up my mind. Not saying a 2D picture can't get you leaning in a direction, but to really appreciate a 3D object you need to see it in the flesh or at least in 3D video and or 3D pictures.

I hope next week that they let us take 3D images of the Speciale. If not I will only have my memories to help me understand my decision:)

Why do 3d rendered cars (and concept cars) always have the most chromed and shiniest wheels?

Im tired of praising the Scud but that is why they got it so right back then, not super silver chromed wheels. But either matt dark grey or gold.

Also on the quarter angle, the Speciale's blue/white stripe going up and down on the front hood (due to the con caved vent for performance reasons), looks like a stock drop arrow. Not very attractive.

But you have to admit that some cars in photograph form already looks great! In person it looks beautifully awesome. (250 GTO, Enzo, 288, Dino, Scud, 599 GTO, etc)

The Speciale looks very 'disappointing', in person it might look 'nice'.

The Fcar (to me) that looks average in photo but awesome in person is the FF.

While we may all have our own opinions regarding the amount of "elegant" accessorizing that may have applied by Ferrari, IMO, the 458 is one of the most fluid and timeless designs of current day. Given such beautiful sculpting, I fail to see anything which could or should have been added that wouldn't make the 458S appear garish.

    Or it might look awesome:)

That is exactly my point. To make a decision and declare a 3D object is either ugly or beautiful based on a 2D photo, seems rather pointless, to me.

But it seems lots of others feel that is good enough for them to make a decision. I guess that's just the way some people react to 2D photos.

You know some things and some people are not photogenic and some things and some people are photogenic. The difference is that reality is the only way to tell the truth.

As for the FF, it didn't look great to me in 2D but I didn't have a real opinion until I saw it in person.........then I decided that the 2D pictures were right:) IMO

Well, I would agree on the profile and most of the rear end. I am not sure I would classify the front end of the 458 as beautiful or elegant. The headlight, the mustache, the wedge shape front end that resembles a modern Lamborghini.
