Thanks..rapid depreciation appears to be the largest negative of the McLaren brand.

I bought a 6 month old 650S and saved a large amount as the initial owner took the hit.

Depends what you are looking for. I test drove one two weeks ago. It's definitely a lot faster and handles much better for a spider. The car got a quite bit more attention than my 430 spider or 458 during the test drive. The biggest difference to me was the tq. The tq difference was immense. Nonetheless I still prefer the ferrari experience because I did not get excited from the sound and the car felt a bit too refined for me. Its a great performance bargain at used prices, I would definitely consider it in the future.

IMO, you better modify the exhaust of your 458 spider. It will become a totally new car, mini-F1.
Before I modified, I was getting bored. Now I love it more than when it was new. But do this only if you like loud sound. If you like speed, turbocharged cars will blow your mind. Especially if you like to smoke people on traffic lights, that extra torque at low rpm will give you smiles.

Both are amazing cars but the difference in feel and handling is dramatic.

The 650s spider has no cowl shake. The carbon tub makes the car feel more planted and is confidence inspiring. A carbon tub makes all the difference in a spider. The ride quality is awesome and unmatched by any car in this catagory. The performance is greater and significant. The 650s has more of everything

There is no comparison in sound. The scream of the 458 on full boil is awesome and legendary. You own one so you know.

I spent a few days in a 650s. The 3 things that stood out to me the most were:

    1. Yes, very, very planted car that handled great.

    2. The sound sucked.

    3. PITA to get in and out of.

    That's all I remember.

Make sure that you have a local dealer. That was the deciding factor between a 650s and a 458 for me. Closest dealer was 300 miles away. Instead of a 2016, would consider a 2015. Beautiful silver 2015 at Mclaren Atlanta with a 350+ initial sticker.

I haven't driven one but the interior felt cramped to me. It was definitely more difficult to get in and out than a 458.

I would not trade my 458 for a McLaren.

Both are an absolute blast to drive, but I don't know if I would leave the 458 for it. 458 is a much more raw car IMO.

I thought about trading my 458 for a 650S and decided against it primarily because the 650S is a pain to get in and out of. The 570S actually fixes that problem, but doesn't perform as well as the 650S. The most noticeable difference, from my recollection, is the 570S has more turbo lag. The suspension is entirely different too, but driving on different roads and on different occasions I didn't feel a lot of difference in that regard personally.

    Go for the McLaren.
Performance capabilities, body stiffness, build quality, exclusivity, the McLaren plays in another league.

Depreciation? Have a look on the market, it does not look well for the 458.
Sound? I like the deep and powerful growl of the McLaren. Otherwise there are many appropriate solutions available for the Mac.

    458 vs 650S
(much ado about nothing vs real performance) ;)

    Have fun with your decision!

No mods to my car. I have the factory Sport Exhaust. I would recommend that as a minimum or you'll want one of the aftermarket units as the stock exhaust sounds weak to me.

That initial depreciation is a benefit to the secondary buyer. Almost as bad as a Mercedes SL. That made the 12c and 650s spiders the best deal on the market. Pricing seems to level out after the initial big hit. A 2015 650s spider should have enough warranty (extendable) to enjoy the car for a year or two without any risk.

By then you'll be ready for the 488 spider:)

Another thing with the 650s is the rear. Looks are subjective but the rear looks hideous to me. But on the other hand you get a faster car to drive in the streets and more money in your pocket after the trade.

We have a 650s spider. It's boring as hell. Very poor sound. Bad electronics.
Super quick, planted, no cowl shake.

The ferraris I owned so much more exciting.
