I am getting ready to spec my 2013 spider and noticed you can order a spare tire? Will this thing eat up the whole storage area up front? Anyone have any input on this option?

    Thanks in advance.

It's a "space saver" wheel and I bet it's one of the least ordered options, except maybe for the suit hanger at $2200 (sorry, I had to sneak that in!!)

My guess is that fills most of the forward trunk -- or at least the top half. Looking at the photo of the trunk, it can't fit down between the wheel arches so I imagine it sits on top similar to the way a 308 or Dino does. Under that must be the jack and tools are stored. You can see where the tire will rest from the shape of the truck floor in the photo.

You certainly could not use it for luggage unless you removed it and stored elsewhere.

I don't even see it on the pricing list for either the coupe or spider. But its listed in the brochure as Modis WHE4. That will show you how rare it will be ordered.

My dealer told me that most do not order it and just call a service truck if there's a problem or use a fix a flat.

If you are going to do long distance driving though, this might be a good option. But, you'll have to use considerable elbow grease to pry it off and install the space saver.

Thanks so much for the detailed info, even a picture was included!!

My pricing sheet states it is a "20" spare wheel" (I guess you have to pay extra for the tire ;-) and they charge $2,891.

No, the tire should be included. I'm surprised it's that cheap but I also imagine it's just stamped steel.

I wish I had a picture of the tire in the car but I don't.

FWIW, if you get the rimowa medium luggage, it fits PERFECTLY in the luggage compartment, and I *think* it fits completely below the shelf, which would allow for the spare tire. Warning -- It's a spendy piece. And unless you're packing your laundry straight into the storage compartment, there is no more efficient way to use that space.
