MY 458 IS NOW AT PREP CENTER IN N.J. HOW LONG IS IT THERE BEFORE SHIPPING TO MY DEALER IN OHIO?
You probably don't want to hear this, but no set answer. My very early 458 coupe (July 2010) was flown over to NJ. Ferrari likely did it due to a dock strike and wanting their money for built cars. Was so excited that I would get my car earlier than planned. And best of all,it was done on Ferrari's dime, not mine. Anyway, car was never prepped/PDI by Ferrari in Italy. So it spent 3 weeks in NJ! Car had some repairs done either there or in Italy based on overspray seen when car was lowered. So, depending on condition of car on arrival in NJ, speed with which they can do their PDI, and ability to get it on a transport to your dealer all affect transport. Normally, under 2 weeks is a safe time frame from arrival at FNA to you. Remember FNA doesn't get paid until they can invoice dealer so they are motivated to move quickly. ESPECIALLY at year end. Please let us know what happens. Best
Figure 2 or 3 weeks before you get it but the holiday may screw that up. Just in time for the first snowfall. .
apologies if this is a "chicken little" comment for those of you expecting cars in January if you've been watching the news, the ports on the west coast are having some labor issues.... http://risnews.edgl.com/retail-news/West-Coast-Port-Strike-Threatens-Holiday-Supply-Chain83447 a couple friends in the logistics business on the Newark side of the country are nervous that this side will go out as well; if so, that would mess up auto imports. (The east/west coast unions are different) Their prediction is after the holidays...but who knows. Would mostly affect sea-borne cargo. Given December is a Ferrari quarter-end, no doubt they are hustling to get their deliveries done so they can count $$. After our experience with 2 cars is "Status 90 purgatory", if FNA offers an air freight special again, we might do that...
My Spider arrived in port last Monday the 26th and according to my dealer is on a truck arriving in Miami tomorrow or Wednesday morning at the latest. Some other cars on the same boat arrived at the dealer last Friday. Once they land in port they're shipping them pretty quickly now.
Must be great to order a new fcar just the way you want it. Buying my 360 Spider was fun too. Sitting on the showroom floor. Equipped the way I would have ordderd it. Drove it home. 3.5 hours over Independence Pass. The sunset at 12k feet was spectacular. I will never forget it. Instant gratification works as well.
