458 to 488

So I went in today and signed for the 488. I'm storing it for the winter, but I wanted to try it out first. I was lucky today as it was pretty mild. We went on a 40 min test drive, here are some of my first impressions.

1) I love the colour and the look of the 488. The metallic flakes pop in the sun. The angular front and large side scoops really do it for me.

2) I thought the 458 was fast, this thing is just nuts. The 488 is just stupid fast.

3) The sound was nice. A deep rumble with all the turbo related sounds working in the background. It does sound like a proper super car. Now, with that being said. I prefer the sound of the 458, but not by much. And not enough to look for an alternative exhaust or bypass system.

4) The down shifts are immediate. There is a noticeable difference to the 458. I could not really tell the difference on the upshifts.

5) With the bumpy road setting on, the car is smother than my BMW.

6) The car with the windows closed and cruising in 7th is a relaxing experience. No drone at all. Perfect for a long boring drive. It is quiet and smooth. Perfect for my wife.

7) The RPM needle does not progress through the rev range at a constant speed. The higher you rev the faster it moves towards redline. At least that is how it felt for me. I stopped looking at the tach and just focused on the LEDs in the steering wheel. I bounced off the rev limiter a couple times until I got used to the really quick shifts required.

8) My car is equipped with full electric and standard seats. While I would have preferred the racing seats, the standard seats are pretty good. Plenty of support and very configurable.

9) I love that I can turn around and look at the engine. Something I will not be able to do with a spider.

10) I love the ability to go into neutral at lights, and rev. (yes, I'm a child).

I will post up some other thoughts as they come to mind.

TLDR: The 488 is awesome and I'm VERY happy I'm lucky enough to own one.

I've got @ 500 miles on my 488 Spider, and I have no regrets trading in my 458, but I DO miss the Tri Coat yellow

When I get the car it should come with the sticker. We should be able to figure it out from there.

I just saw my first 488 in the flesh yesterday when I took my 458 in for service. I'm always skeptical when I read this but the car looks so much better in person. I love that the 458 doesn't have side vents but the 488 looks great.

I was considering doing the same thing, purchasing a 458, until a 488 could be delivered. However, I have seen where people who are repeat customers have received 'special privileges' and gotten a 6 month turn around time on their 488 order. Does anyone know if I ordered 2, or even possibly 3 488's if that window is possible? I'm not waiting nearly 3 years for a car....
