I know this is a bit vague but i figured id ask given the wealth of experience up here. dude i know has a 458 "2010 Ferrari 458 Italia . Ferrari had MSRP of $327,400 and I've added about $40,000 of upgrades on top (headers, exhaust, ton of extra carbon fiber, big stereo upgrade, front/rear cameras, Novitec black lights, passport integrated radar/laser, clear bra, tint, etc" he wants another car i have. im not really that interested in taking a trade as i have a street car already. (he's interested in a race car of mine). just roughly, whats the valuation on this 2010 car. i was told it had low miles. he wasnt sure the exact # but i believe under 20k. thoughts? ideas? curious whats like an average retail price for the car, and what one woudl recommend as a no brainer if were to take it, and then look to sell it to a dealer or someone else. not exactly what i want to do but if the #s are right, why not.
I would say its value is approximately $205-225K. IMO the upgrades you listed will not add much value to the car unless the buyer really wants those items. Also less than 20k miles on most cars is low mileage but not on a 458, assuming mileage is close to 20k. If mileage is considerably less than 20k the price will go up. FYI Continental Auto Sports(authorized Ferrari dealer)has a nicely optioned Rosso Corsa (red)F458 coupe with 16k miles listed for sale at $218,995. Others here with way more knowledge than me can chime in on whether or not the $40k in aftermarket add ons can be passed on to the next buyer.
Agree with above. I just sold my 2011 458 for $240 it had under 3000 miles. Listed at $285. The more options added as noted above the less value you get for the options.
An Fchatter posted a formula that was sticker price minus $10k a year and $2 per mile so 2010 with let's say 20k miles. 327,400 (which is a staggering MSRP so be sure to check that)...my nicely optioned 12 was 281k for comparison. 327,400 - 50 - 40 237,400 however, you typically do not get anything back for over optioning a new Fcar over the standard options and thus IMHO, the car would sell for closer to 210k at 20,000 miles and even lower. For comparison, I have a nicely optioned 12 coupe, with 9,240 miles, at FOBH listed for $249k. Hope this helps.
Rod thats interesting formula Me 272,000 -30 (2012/13/14) -4400 (2200 miles x 2) -------------------------- 237,600 which is what I think I could get for my car, also I have a desirable color and all the proper options non nonsense.
thanks guys. im not really looking for this car, but would like to help the deal get done and if he's that much interested and will discount it where I can make anextra several grand , then perhaps. couple more questions: 1. with these 458s, what are the things I need to triple check in a PPI (beyond the motor, etc.) like the documentation packet? original pouch. ? I've had some collectibles and knew the list of what you need to ensure exists to get top dollar, but not with thse modern day machines.. 2. whats the market like for these? he says its a 327 sticker and acknowledges its a massive sticker. he's going to get it to me tonight I believe. and then eh says 40k more in spares as I posted. he's an honest guy I know from racing, so I have no reason to not believe him, but we'll double check that obviously. im not a wholesale, not in the business...and if im going to take a car in on trade against a very valueable rare race car, want to ensure I have some room to deal. 3. you think I should just take it over to a dealer, and take what he gives? I think I can get the car for 190, 195. id rather just take all cash, and im kind of wondering why he wants to give it to me but right now I know why its because he wants 210 for it. any other thoughts are much appreciated. I appreciate your time.
a few thoughts $327K is a huge MSRP; a heavily loaded 2010 coupe would struggle to hit $300K, unless there were a lot of extra "vanity" options selected (eg. CF everything exterior, custom paint). As noted, generally the "vanity" options do not hold value in the market - fair or unfair, it's generally true unless it matches the specific needs of a buyer who is willing to pay 20K miles is good mileage, the challenge is it sounds like you plan on flipping the car; in that case, 20K is "high" relative to others on the market, so that will inevitably drive price pressure especially with "any miles are bad" oriented Ferrari buyers... The extra customization he did is great, however he (or you) should assume no recovery on re-sale (again, unless you find that one, motivated buyer) For a 2010, I would think hard about the extended warranty, maybe as a deal sweetener. An identical car with a warranty in this class of vehicles has an edge. My 2012 458 had $294K MSRP and I swapped it at $260K with 6K miles - which I consider to be an amazing deal. However I think the market right now has a bit more inventory, and this car has the mix of "higher sticker" and "higher miles". I am sure it's a great car, you are just going to have to navigate the implications of market pricing.
Unless you just like selling cars I wouldn't mess with it. There are so many sub 5K cars a 20k car is a hard sell. After about 260k options don't matter. Sum detract as most like stock cars. 210k is retail plus. Also even if you could buy it for 180k it could have 20k plus wrong with it. If has been used on the track much and needs a brake job your profit margin would disappear in a hurry.
