TR was too big.Fit and finish we're very good but the brakes were too small for the weight of the car . I found that out while lapping at Road Atlanta. Power and torque were good. Cabin room was small considering the size of the car. The brakes were later improved on the 512 TR. Overall it was fun to own and quite striking in its day. Reliable as I recall.
A nice single family home in a good area on L.I. Was about 60,000.

Only had my BB and 328 for 3 or 4 years each but do not recall major issues with either although my Boxer was carbureted so I became adept at changing plugs. The performance potential of any of these cars is way beyond my capabilities. The one I regret selling was the Daytona. I did keep it over 30 years. I will not make the same mistake with the CS. It is a special car for the pure involvement of driving it.

The CS was the last Ferrari road car that was built first and foremost in order to homologate a racing car (360 GTC). As a result, an amazing chassis with amazing mechanical (425bhp from a 3.6 litre engine 10 YEARS AGO)

The 458 is an exceptional car. It has been transformed into an exceptional racing car - sort of the other way around to the CS.

I hace a CS, a 360 GTC, HAD a 458 and race a 458 GT. The point is I had a 458 and stil have the CS and always will. It is a bit like an F40.... rare and special

Great info in this thread ... IMO the CS is the best looking Ferrari of all time, the lines and proportions are just PERFECT no matter what angle your looking at.

For me the best looking Ferrari of all time is the P4. Long nose 275 still looks darn good to me also. I do agree that the CS is strickingly beautiful with no bad angles.

I agree, my favorite car of all time so far is the modern interpretation of it, the P4/5.

    James Glickenhaus got excellent taste.

Thank you so much for painting a good impression of the TR for me.

So $6,500 for a 250 GTO was a decent deal, only 10% the cost of a regular house.

It's unfortunate that your having so many issues with your 458. Luck of the draw I guess. My first Ferrari was 2007 430 Spider, and after a year of nightmares, the factory and dealer took it back and replced it with a 2008 430 spider which never had a single problem. I've had my 2011 458 for 18 months and have about 6000 miles on it. I have not had a single thing repared by the dealer yet.

I have both and prefer the feel & sound of the CS. The 458 is faster & more practical. But so is my cayenne turbo. If your goal is simply a fun sportscar, I'd pick the CS.

You can use the 458 everyday not the c/s.
C/S is raw and you must focus when driving on track or in town.
They are both great and place a large grin on you face

Wow, this thread has surprised me . Never would have thought that there would be so much love for the CS . I really thought more would mention Scud.

I fully understand the raw feeling. When I went from 348 to 360 , I didn't like the 360 at first because it was too refined.

Because I like driving far the refinements are nice. As you see, buying a Ferrari isn't about speed.

CS all the way, unless you plan to use it as its meant to be used ie driven and driven a lot (5k/yr)

The CS and 458 are also in my garage. Externally the CS is beautiful, practically flawless. Internally it feels like a race car, somewhat like my 458 Challenge. Dynamically, the steering is wonderful, the engine is good but the transmission is awful. I tracked it many times until the rotors wore out but without any other issues. Driving it on the street is torture due to the transmssion and low ground clearance. But it is a timeless beauty for keeps.

Externally the 458 Italia is striking from the sides but flawed from other angles. Internally it is a mess. Dynamically, the engine is powerful and the transmission is sparkling, but the steering is numb. The handling and ride beat the CS by a wide margin. With an exhuast bypass remote control, it sounds great. The first day I took it to the track, the calipers leaked fluid and the dealer could not fix it. I just drive it as my everyday car and it is comfortable. Overall it is not special like the CS. I would get rid of the 458 Italia as soon as something better comes along but I am keeping the CS.

I have a CS and the 458 race car. I have more fun from the feed back I get on the road with the CS then the 458CH on the track!

Dito, that's it! If you want to have a raw, masculin car, then go with the CS.

Driving the kids every day to the kindergarten - take the 458.

    Hi,

Yes the roads in Indonesia are a nightmare. The CS will probably ride harder than the 458 I guess.

    Cheers

    Hi all,

Wow! I am very grateful on the responses. I have just returned from London visiting the McLaren factory in Woking. It was very impressive and I managed to get to the production line too. Watched them make the cars up close. I also saw their F1 section preparing for the race in Melbourne. The claimed that they managed to change all 4 tires in about 3.4 secs. Will try to lower it to below 3 secs soon. It was all excellent details and surreal. I was invited there because I have an MP4 on order and a friend of mine has a P1 on order.

I went to Geneva on the 6th as my friend needed to spec his P1 with Jamie who was head of MSO. My friend and I was also invited to the Ferrari stand where our jaws dropped to the floor when we saw the new Enzo. Amazing is all I can say. Big Wow!

Anyway, back to the CS vs 458 question. I guess I owe an apology. I have a 458 now and have an MP4 spider on order for July?August delivery. I do not think that I should have 2 "similar" cars in my garage. Therefore, when a friend offered me a CS, I had the idea to sell my 458 and replace it with a CS. I have a feeling that it is more "collectible" in my country as there are only 5 CSs and even less that have not been in an accident. Your comments have ignited my curiosity and I will definitely try to hitch a test drive ASAP to determine myself. Although I am now infatuated with the new Porsche GT3 too. Saw it in Geneva and it was terribly tempting.

    Cheers

I've owned both as well. While the 458 is superior in absolute terms, the CS was more raw and stimulating. It made you laugh and it could made you cry as it was quick to remind that foolish inputs and careless foot work on the pedals would not go unpunished. The CS had a short fuse and a hot temper, the 458 is much more forgiving and I am not even talking track speeds but spirited back roads driving if you catch my "drift"..... :) I owned and sold both and I do miss the CS.

The 458 will be heading down the depreciation curve while the CS will be doing the opposite....

    I have both.

I'll just parrot and summarize some of the thoughts posted in this thread:

    1) there are nothing alike, other than the badges, and in my case, the color
    2) the CS is "so two generations ago", but is exceedingly endearing. It is very involving to drive and IMO makes hair-rising noises out of the box.
    3) the 458 is an all-rounder, the CS has a narrow mission profile; as such the 458 has compromises which in this case is NOT at all bad.

In order to cover all the bases and minimize disappointments, it's advisable to have both.

I have a CS. I also had an F40, which was the only car I ever regret going away. The CS, like the F40 was a formula that they just got right. The follow up, F50/Scud were great cars, just not the original.

I may get a 458, but the CS will be a keeper. Hopefully, the CS version of the 458 will have the dynamic appeal of the CS....... that will be an amazing car.

if you have owned at least 5+ Ferraris so far, you know ferrari and you wouldn't even compare the two. 458 is just one of modern sports cars to be replaced but 360 CS is one of the best modern ferrari and the collectors item - the value is going up continuously.

I originally thought this was posted on 360/430 forum. Glad to see so much praise over the CS on the 458/488 thread. It really speaks volumes imo. Much respect for such a fantastic car

The CS is nice, until you drive a Speciale. And yes I have owned both.
