Why do you think they chose the 458 to emulate rather than the 488, a now 7 year old car vs. a 13 year old car?

No idea. I can speculate though. They are combining out with the ZR1 which will be turbocharged, so I guess they benchmarked both. They probably didn’t wanna mention 488 early on because they were not ready to announce the ZR1.

Probably not going to be popular here.

First, getting a Z06, if no connections will take about 18 months to get one at MSRP. A friend just got a loaded Z06 at 160K MSRP. 200K is probably what they are getting with the dealer premium.

Buying a high mileage 458 is rolling the dice with repairs. If decide to buy one - have well over 5 digit emergency fund. No matter how good the 458 PPI or past ownership may be. Hopefully that money is never needed for your preselected excellent mechanic/dealership.

I’ve had a 458 and now a C8 3LT Spyder. Gotta say, and agree with my Z06 friend who had many Ferraris; if a 458 or even a 488 is a 10, a Stingray C8 is at least an 8. Too early to tell, but he suspects the Z06 is a 9 compared to a 458 and 488. Of course that’s subjective.

The C8’s can drive anywhere with less concerns where to park. 3 year factory warranty is huge. Plus has latest technology. Dealerships everywhere.

To me, a Z06, is the way to go. I would also drive a C8 Stingray. It’s a wonderful car.

Because when design started on the C8 the 458 was the target- They even purchased crate 458 engines to reverse-engineer and had detailed cadcam images of the 458 to emulate from airflow/asthetic standpoints.

You have to know the C8 had been in concept during the 360 era- it gained momentum during the 430 era and received board approval during the 430>>458 transition- nothing happens quickly at GM- especially the first mid-engine Corvette.

By the time the C8 and subsequent "Z06" etc variants were greenlighted the 488 was history.

    Cheers

Z06 no question for me. Better than the 458 in every measurable way. Warranty, no sticky buttons or other BS we put up with, vast dealer network. I’d take it over just about anything within its price range right now give or take 100k.

    Indeed.
What’s funny is if the Z06 had a prancing horse on the hood it would be 500k and regarded as an automotive achievement. Corvette does it and it’s trash…

“I've heard the ZR1 will be a hybrid”.

The hybrid is the E-Ray. Z06 body, ceramics, SR motor, the EV will drive the front wheels. So it’s 4 wheel drive. The EV will increase the stock HP (i think) to about 600.

Apparently first ones produced in Fall. Of course that’s always fluid.

I love my 458. It's my first/only Ferrari and the realization of a decade's-long dream. So if I were given the choice I'd get the Ferrari.

But if I were to think about it objectively it'd have to be the Corvette. More power, more performance, more newer, more comfort, more features, a huge dealer network. The list goes on.

Looks are subjective, and while I love how pretty my 458 is you gotta admit the Z06 has a spaceship look that satisfies your inner 8 year old (just don't look too closely at the rear end).

One thing nobody has mentioned: which car will retain its value more ... let`s say in 10 years?
The 458 is the last v8 aspirated engine and the last designed by Pininfarina with the emblem affixed to the side body.
Will the Z06 be replaced by the ZR1 in value?

Why do any of us that can afford these toys care so much about value in 10 years? Invest in equities, drive crazy cars.

Have the most fun you can with these things and live now.

Pick the one you like the most and drive the hell out of it.

So I had a new 458 coupe and a new 458 spider over a couple of years. You won't hear me say anything negative about them. I still think the 458 is better looking of the variants but the F8 is darn, darn close. The F8 however is more expensive than a current 458.

I currently have a C8 Stingray Convertible and I signed up about 18 months ago for a C8iZ06.

First, the C8 is not a Ferrari -- and that's good and bad. Its also a really fine car with a lot of creature comfort that my older body is beginning to appreciate. The good part is I drive it everywhere and don't worry about it. The bad part is -- its just not "special" like a Ferrari is. I haven't driven the Z06 but the Stingray -- as nice as it is -- just doesn't give you the same thrill.

The C8 is a lot bigger than the 458, mainly because of the trunk (again good and bad). It looks larger also. And its not a pretty but not "ugly". It looks a bit too much like a Lambo wannabee but I guess GM understands its market.

The advantages of the C8 Z06 over the 458. Its new and has every new gadget. It has a front camera, 2 rear cameras, a tv in the rear view mirror, heated and ventilated seats, a modern touch screen, a front lift that works in 2 seconds, much better heating and cooling.

It has more power and torque that you can get serviced at just about any GM dealer. Its faster 0-60 by quite a lot (albeit the 458 goes over 200mph). And I honestly don't worry what I do with it. Its my daily driver and I take it grocery shopping, running errands, etc. I never did that in my 458.

The 458 advantages: As nice as the top of the line trim is in the Corvette, the 458 has better materials (which also wear faster but that's another story). The body is aluminum which has a better fit and finish than the Vette's composite. And I prefer the 458's interior design as its more attractive.

Chevy did a really good job in engineering this car. I'm impressed they made a custom hand built motor for their flagship given GM's current direction is electric.

  23. Bingo.

We could be dead in 10 years.

Or there could be a zombie apocalypse.

Buy a car to drive today, not tomorrow. Because no one is guaranteed tomorrow.

Worry about tomorrow when it gets here.

So just ignore the fact that it’s a straight rip off of the 458 and it’s basically plastic?
