The last thing my inner 8 year old wanted was some smelly Corvette. In fact EVERY one of us growing up then ACTUALLY grew to HATE Corvettes and when we would take our cars out on a cruise, lets say 7 - 10 cars, and we saw a corvette coming from the other direction we would ALL hit it with a THUMBS DOWN. That never dies, and wont. Now, for the record, I am a Chevy guy, love the old Camaro's.
For all of those bashing the Corvette. Does it say more about the C8 Z06 or more about the 458 that the two are now priced near parity towards one another? Even if it's a 458 that's a decade old with 60k on the ODO (per the OP's example)? If a Ferrari was so great, why would any of its cars ever be priced simpatico with Chevy trash?
You guys would give some stranger in his vette the thumbs down? What a pathetic group of losers you are.
Personally, I don't pay any attention to corvettes. Maybe if they were rare I would, but they're everywhere. Ford GT's are pretty rare and I always like seeing them. That would be the only American muscle that would get my attention. In fact, I'd rather have a Ford GT than any of the modern Ferrari's.
Back in the day shortly after the 2005 Ford GT came out I was seriously looking to buy one but did not. What stopped me was that they had a big problem with gauge's malfunctioning at random. It could be a tach, a fuel gauge, speedo, you name it. And I thought for that kind of money and the fact that Ford did not stand behind their product, I said, I will pass. At that time I could have bought one for around 175K I think it was. But that's OK, happy to have stood by my conviction in spite of leaving a bunch of money on the table. As for the Ford GT, that gauge problem still exists. What was done a number of years back now, a company called Speed Hut made replacements. They aren't exactly like the original ones however you can also customize them the way you want. Myself, very happy with the 2015 SpecialeA.
Understood, and I love the Ford GT among many cars from numerous manufacturers world wide. But can you at least agree that a group of guys driving along in their exotic cars giving a thumbs down to some guy enjoying his car, in this case a corvette, who has done nothing to them is just plain pathetic and says an awful lot about how low class such individuals are? The irony is they consider themselves to be of “higher class” than the guy in the ‘vette no doubt. If I were driving with that group and they pulled that I can assure you that would be the last time I ever associated with such classless twits.
Officer: Do you know how fast you were going? Ford GT Driver: There is a known problem with these gauges.
I guess you're missing one thing that I failed to mention. That is, we were all around 16 years old back then with our $3000 Fords Chevy's Mopars, beating Corvette's on the track all the time. I loved those days. I wouldn't do that now. But, what will never change is that I don't like Corvette's and I am not alone. A mid 60's example I would consider.
Yeah, not something I would do. I'm involved in FCA and I don't know anyone that would do that nor have I ever heard anyone even mention a Corvette.
I’m always haunted when I turn my GT over. I follow the proper steps religiously (slight twist of the ignition to allow the gauges to queue up before finally turning the key the rest of the way), but I still fret about whether that time will be the last time they work.
So you haven't opted for the Speed Hut gauges as yet. Can't say I blame you. HOWEVER, while I own 50 year old vehicles where the gauges have NEVER failed, to see something like the Ford GT leave you on pins and needles everytime you initialize the system, that they can fail you. I pity that. And, nothing worse than one where the fuel gauge and speedometer blow out...sometimes at the same time. With that, I am happy for myself that I did not commit to that (while leaving a ton of $$$$ on the table, I am a long term owner when justified) and I do like Fords to a certain extent (I am a Pontiac guy). For about the last 10 years, I continue to own a special order 2013 Shelby GT 500 ( Last year that Carroll was alive and involed) and do LOVE IT! American Muscle at its finest especially with a LIVE rear axle. Good luck on your persuits, the 05/06 Ford GT's are great cars with the 5.4 in them. In fact I like those A LOT more than that V-6 thing they have now.
Your choice of high-performance cars depends entirely on the driving experience that fuels your passion. In my perspective: If you're a performance and track enthusiast, the C8 Z06 is the unequivocal choice. With features like adjustable height and camber from the factory (up to -3.00), 670 HP (courtesy of a flat-plane crank), and built-in telemetry, all at a fraction of the cost and under warranty, it's a compelling option. While the 458 can handle the track, it may struggle to keep up, and there's the concern of potential issues with the DCT on a car over a decade old. For spirited drives around town and navigating hilly terrains, both cars are excellent choices, performing admirably in their respective elements. The reality is that on the streets, you'll likely never push either car to their performance limits. If your concern extends to the visual impact and status associated with your vehicle, the Ferrari is bound to turn more heads—it is a Ferrari, after all. Yet, the Z06 isn't far behind in making a statement.
The corvette is a complete aesthetic disaster… blending squares, triangles and a few curves together is just a mess. Designers should be embarrassed and take them all back off the streets. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Would be so easy to fix c8 esthetics. All the proportions are correct. Its only the details that are off. Make trunk smaller even if can't fit golf bag. Then smooth off all the sharp creases so they are more rounded. Job done.
If I'm going for track performance, I would buy a track focused Ferrari like a 488 Challenge. Comparing what essentially is a 14 year old street car with a brand new Z06 seems spurious logic to me. In terms of DCT, that's a legit concern, but have you followed the cluster-f&ck of problems with the new Z06 engines?
In other words start over on the corvette, butt ugly especially from the rear and those side boomerangs....so cookie cutter. No thanks.
Received my Z06 last month and finally crossed the 500 mile break in period. The first time I was able to rev her up to redline was an amazing experience. The sound is outstanding. It’s been years since I owned my 458 Spider but I can honestly say the Z06 is at least equal to the sound of that car. In fact, the downshifts are much better. Time will tell how well this car holds up mechanically but I am impressed with the fit and finish of the car My SF 90 Spider is due in about a year from now. It may be a difficult decision on which one to keep
