The windshield of my 458 has been cracked by a little stone on the road, so I ordered a new one and today they have replaced it. There were no problems with the placement of the new windshield, but I now noticed, that the VIN number under it now stays a little off place. I called the workshop and told them about what I have noticed, but they said they haven't messed with the VIN number plaque in any way. SO the only other thing we can think of is that the VIN number "window" of the new windshield (OEM Ferrari one, ordered by VIN number) may be placed on a little different position and that's why now the VIN number stays a little out of place.

Does anyone else has any experiense like that?

A little more than 3000 Euro, but it turned out there a lot of variations (with/without heating, rain sensors, etc.) and mine was the most expensive one.

No idea man, really. I just know from the dealer, that there are several variants of the 458 windshield (not the Speciale, which is obviously lighter) and mine was absolutely the most expensive model. I need to ask for more info.

However, my only issue is the stupid VIN number. Does anyone has a VIN number, that stays a little diagonal compared to the "VIN window" and not perfectly straight?

I got a replacement windshield (OEM), and the vin is not "diagonal", but it seems closer to one side of the window. It is a slight difference, so it doesn't really bother me that much.
Do you have a photo of the problem?

Here is a pic of mine. Maybe I'm too pedantic, I don't know, but it drives me nuts!

That's going to happen due to manufacturing tolerances. Think about it this way - you have the windshield size, the body opening for the windshield, the placement of the window for the VIN, and then the location of the VIN itself on the vehicle. It's surprising you can even see the VIN! Trust me, being OCD myself, I want everything perfect, but this is minor compared to having a miss-matched panel gap that everyone will notice.

I think Tony's spot on. The VIN placed on the windscreen like that is annoying, but it could be a lot worse. If work was done at Ferrari dealer, ask if they can correct it. If not, enjoy your beautiful 458 to the fullest and correct the problem next time you crack a windscreen. I hope you crack a lot of windscreens (over time, not all at once): it's a sign you're healthy and keep enjoying your gorgeous 458 (and life for that matter) to the fullest. There are probably other, more serious things, to worry about in life.

    Keep enjoying in good health!

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

At least yours is centered in the window. My VIN is off to one side. The star is almost hidden on one side.
I have looked at several cars since, and noticed that they all seem to be a little different. Since there is not much room for movement of the windshield, I'm guessing that they are not that careful when riveting the VIN on the dashboard in the factory, thus causing some variance.

I looked at a few cars at C&C yesterday, and realized that it seems to be hit or miss. Some vin tags are centered, others are crooked. I don't think it's the position of the windshield because there is not much space for any movement in any direction. It just seems that the vin plate has some leeway of where it gets mounted in the factory.
