As the title says. It’s started making a weird creek when it shuts or opens. Sounds like a horror movie door opening Mechanically, looks ok, but it’s odd. is WD40 a good or bad idea?
Bad idea! Don’t put WD40 near paint and rubber seals… even with thorough rinsing after, it’s bad ****. I would use compressed air from either an airline (carefully) or a vehicle blower like the BigBoi…you could also use a stream of water or an IPA solution like Gyeon prep or a homemade one while it’s moving in/out and then flush with the water and blow it thoroughly dry. I’m sure it’s just built up grime from not cleaning in there properly and not blowing it dry after each wash. On that note, I didn’t even know my mirrors folded in and out. Never did it or found a reason to do it. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Spoke to Ferrari today. Workshop manger said this. “Evening Adam No harm in a bit of WD40, not a problem we normally have though. Definitely worth a go. Workshop Manager “ So…. What the heck do I do video here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/m48lv6bf70chrfj/Video%2017-05-2023%2C%2019%2022%2059.mov?dl=0 Dick Lovett Ferrari Swindon The Copse, Frankland Road Blagrove, Swindon, SN5 8YW
To be clear, WD40 will most likely ‘work’ to take away your squeaking and creaking… BUT in long term, it’s a bad product for rubbers and paints… it will degrade these areas over time— I always think of long preserving surfaces like paint, plastics and rubbers when choosing products. Did you try what I told you above? Power washer, compressed air, blown air, Gyeon prep, soap, etc? Any of the above less harsh options? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
White lithium grease is better for lubricating joints. You can get it in a spray can similar to WD-40.
