now that it happened inside the US, most likely, there will be an investigation as to how that fire started. if it is a mechanical error, Ferrari will really have to do something about this. sure it is a nice car but if it's been burning left and right, that is not a good sign. something really is wrong.

One would think that at the price of this car, they'd RECALL THEM ALL AND FIX THIS!

It's just absurd to me to see so many 458's going up in flames recently... at least
halt deliveries until the problem causing fires is resolved. Screw the fire extinguisher
    option - that's a bandaid for a severed limb.

In an emergency, it'll only take 5 minutes or so to get the fire extinguisher unhooked from the bracket and pointed at the fire. I think it's more for looks.

You can always have one in the engine compartment to go off automatically if sometime does occur.

I agree with the majority of the posts above; something NEEDS to be done about this. Almost every time I log onto f-chat, I read about yet ANOTHER 458 going up in flames. The 458 is a *hot* car for sure, but this is just too extreme.

I don't mind spending money detailing the car upon delivery - but installing a fire suppression system in a new road car is a bit much. I noticed a few drops of oil the size of a dime and another two the size of a quarter on my garage floor under the 458 engine compartment. Could have been car on lift after I pulled 458 out of garage. Anyhow, I'm going put up on lift and check it out tomorrow. Hot engine plus oil leak could be culprit here, more to follow....

True, but it could also prevent a major fire like this one.

It's also a huge precaution to have just in case you can't get the fire extinguisher out fast enough, although I'd rather get out of the car instead of try to get the extinguisher out, isn't that what insurance is for?

Good luck, maybe take the car into the dealership to have them give it a once over.

How does a fire extinguisher prevent a fire exactly?

I think he's talking about a fire suppression system in the engine bay that can extinguish a small fire before it becomes a large, unruly one.

    Wow what a shame..

Too many of these have been wrecked lately. I wonder how much their insurance premiums will shoot up.

Gotcha... that would help, but still won't prevent a fire in the first place. Shame on
Ferrari for not fixing this problem - it's OBVIOUS to me that all these fires are NOT
    operator error or coincidence.

Ferrari has yet to rectify the cold air intake system of the car since the 348, if you look at the 458 engine bay you see no place were the heat can escape the opposite Ferrari has designed the rear of the engine bay of the 458 to recycle the air back as cold air but it doesn't work when the air gets so hot.

A challenge grill should be a great addition to the car, even though Ferrari said no to the challenge grill before.

if there's an inherent issue that needs to be addressed, an extinguisher may not necessarily help ... unless it auto fires into the engine bay ...

I wish now that I would have waited to purchase my 458. :(
Hate to seem ghey, but I believe I will keep it in the garage until Ferrari figures this one out.

Certainly don't want the picture below to end up being a before-the-fire one.
