The article also mention a 1962 250 GT Convertible (they meant California maybe?) showing a replica based on a Ford!

But I have herd about a GTO and a 250LM in Dubai!

If it's true that the Middle East (and Chinese by the way) are showing interest in classic cars the prices will continue to get higher...

If not yet out in front appearing with classic cars, I suspect middle eastern investors are behind some purchases, Back when it was discovered some UK museum had some valuable Mercedes rsce car formerly thought to have been only there on loan(but suddenly eligible for sale once it was uncovered Mercedes had accidentally given it to them),it was Mideast money that sprung it loose and the buyer doubled his money.

Now sold back to the original seller via Bonhams Goodwood in 2013. But there still isn't a major influx of full classics into the middle east, more a dribble. Modern exotica is the big ticket for that market.

Found this photo on Instagram a few days ago. Seems to be a 250 SWB & 250 Cal Spider SWB somewhere in the middle east, possibly Dubai. I guess there are a few collectors out there who seek out the classics.

Also note the extremely rare (1/1 if I'm not mistaken) black CLK GTR in the background beside a Maserati MC12 and Lamborghini Countach.

Cool picture! Thanks for sharing. I am for some odd reason starting to like the countach more and more. Only the p400 though. Something so pure about this car. I can only imagine how cool the car in red looks! Thanks! E

"GTO" at Ferrari world 2 weeks ago.
While there are many people who could easily afford a GTO in the UAE, I doubt the PR person mentioned in the OP article would know difference between a real one, a recreation based on a 250, a 288GTO or a 599 GTO.

These cars are with Tomini Clasics in Dubai. They also have a 330-powered GTO replica. (By the way, the MC12 and CLK GTR are now listed as "SOLD".)

that is not to say that the Middle East might not become a mecca (excuse the pun) for genuine classic Ferraris, Maseratis etc. for this reason--they have started having concours d'elegance with I think some Brits organizing them. Once they have a real concours with real experts flown in the experts are not going to judge replicas, but real cars, so they will merely take out their checkbook and buy real cars. True, in the past they tended to buy cars like Daytonas and park them when the ashtrays are full, but I see increasing signs that they realize that classic cars are to be cherished and shown like fine art. They're comin' 'round, you might say.

I also recognize another reason some people buy exotic concoursable (new word?) cars is that it puts them at the right dinner table so to speak. If I was a widget maker and I wanted to ask Peter Sachs what is the outlook for widgets, maybe he wouldn't talk to me about it but if I owned a V12 racing Ferrari with a storied history I might run into him at Pebble, Colorado Grand, Amelia or somesuch and we would talk about cars and then I can ask about widgets. It's just like joining the Bel Air Country Club--the right car gets you in the door.

Does anyone know the S/N for the 250 SWB they have? It's gorgeous. Can't tell if it's a replica or not but the color is striking. They also have the ex Cosby 288 GTO, which might be a harder sell these days...

Those guys have a serious inventory, very impressive. Of course there is also a replica of Jim's 0846 that isn't that impressive.

Just stumbled on this, that's my picture. I can give a bit of history on this. The owner of this collection is a family friend, and he had given me access to his warehouses (he had two in Dubai), while his showroom was being built. He was in the process of consolidating all of his cars from around the world to be housed in this showroom. I knew he had supercars in his collection, but when his garage door opened, I was not expecting this; he has the best of the best cars ever made. Just to name a few at the top of my head: Ferrari 250GT Lusso, SWB, California, Mercedes CLK GTR, Aston Martin DB5, Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, Jaguar XJ 220, Maserati MC12, Mercedes 500K, several Jaguar E Types, and the Countach you see in the picture only has 25km on the clock. This is in addition to the "newer" hypercars he owns. It was truly a privilege to have had access to cars I had only dreamed about; my jaw literally hit the floor when I had my first look at it. Also, getting in and out of the CLK GTR, is quite the task! You need someone to grab both your arms and pull you out.

I will post more pictures on my instagram slowly.
