The sound on the 488 sadly seems to leave a lot to be desired.

Yikes. The 488 sounds absolutely terrible when compared to the 458, just as I suspected it would....

Guys do you think the 488 in the vid is hitting the full 8K rpm? To me it sounds like it’s bouncing off the rev limiter in “N” no more than 4-5K rpm, my old Mercedes CLK63 while in P or N wouldn’t rev past 3K rpm for safety reasons.
Hope it’s not the case with the 488.

Hmm doubt it, the 458 (at least mine) can go to 9K in P and N, sounds like the 488 may be hitting the 8K redline mark

I am going to pass judgement until hear it in person - capturing exhaust notes on phone is just so hard.

Close your eyes and guess what type of car the 488 is. I'd never guess Ferrari.

So the 458 is the highest revving road car SF makes (has ever made?). F12 is 8500. 488 is 8000.

Who knows that just may make the 458 a real keeper and then you add the Pinan design (no ugly door handles as well!)

As I regular visitor to F1 races - the difference between 2013 races with NA F1 cars and 2014 with Turbo cars - we went from in 2012 wearing professional grade ear cups when sitting in the grand stands due to the unbearably loud sound (and music) of the cars to not needing any ear protection in 2013 and beyond. If Turbo's messed up the sound of F1 cars which rev much higher than road cars and run down straightaways at 240 miles an hours I cannot imagine they can make the Turbo in 488 sound as good as 458. As a die hard fan of the marquee - I wish Ferrari all the success and hope the 488 is a perfect car as I would like to own it.

Listening to the sound of the 488, it reminded me of an orchestra playing a symphony without trumpets, horns or tuba. It really sounded quite hollow, especially when compared against the fantastic sound of the 458.

Noted it too: at least as per the recording the turbine's whistle upon declining revs is very prominent, and personally rather disturbing to me.
After seeing this vid I would def want to test drive one before spending +$300K!
If I would hear that whine in person it would def be a no go!!

LOL Just over 3 decades time lapse ;)

In all fairness though I will reserve final judgement when I hear the 488 in the flesh, which
is why I would personally def ask for that test drive before jumping into a purchase

In terms of sound , 458 being natural aspirated is DEFINITELY better and louder than 488 ! In a way I find the new Lambo Hurracan quite too ! In terms of silencio, 488 and Hurracan are probably equal contestants . 458 is classic and does not belong to the league of silence .

I'm going with the 458 .... Because I have one. My MBZ 63 went twin turbo and never sounded as good as the normally aspirated MBZ. Also there is lag time spooling up. That being said the Ferrari may be different. I guess the jury is still out.

The 488 sounds like a choking chicken... Obviously this comparison is a no-brainer.

Not entirely fair comparison. That 458 sounds nothing like that. It's inside a shop, no doubt surrounded by reflective surfaces.

My Honda sounds great too... in my garage ;)

488 sounds great to me considering your gaining 100 HP. More then worth the trade off to me.
