I have a question about some extremely minor fraying on the bottom portion of the fins on my carbon fiber rear diffuser clear coat, and how best to avoid this peeling more. If anyone knows about carbon fiber material, can you please ping me? Thank you.

The first question would be if there is any physical damage that is leading to the fraying of the clear coat as you say. The rear diffuser fins are often scraped when parking or over speed bumps so you want to be sure what the cause of your issue is.

If there is no physical damage then you can turn your attention to the clear coat itself. Note that the clear used on carbon fiber parts is no different than the clear used on automotive paint. For this reason there is no 'carbon fiber' specific knowledge required. If the coating is peeling then there is no way to correct it without having it re-coated. Given how new your car must be I would approach the dealer to see if it would be covered under warranty.

Without photos or more information I cannot comment further but I hope you have some information to help you. Feel free to email [email protected] with pictures and we can advise you further.

This is why I've never ordered the CF diffuser or any other CF exterior option that is exposed to the road (i.e. Front fins on 458 or front end on the 488). Unless you want to wrap in clear bra they will get banged up.

Agreed.. I could just about justify ordering the front splitter in carbon because it appeared high of the Tarmac .. but the rear diffuser... eek.. the thought of reversing it into a pavement was too much.. had I ordered it though. I would have wrapped in paint protection film(PPF).. I believe there are thick variants or you could like my PPF guy said apply 2 applications for extra protection. As for repairing it once it's frayed.. really don't know..

Does anyone know of any aftermarket protection options for the rear diffuser on a 488? Lots of options like ScrapeArmor for the front but I am not able to find anything readily available for the rear. Something like a small discrete press fit rubber sleeve?
