I'm trying to find out what the standard count for cells in the stock catalytic converters would be.

Just roughly, I'm trying to work out what 'count' aftermarket universal cats I should buy, to maintain emissions standards similar to a stock system (long story... won't bore you with it!)

I would like to ask why ? Victoria doesn't have emission testing requirements.

But to answer its usually about 400.

Not that I am aware of. The only cat upgrade that I ever done clearly showed me that it was 400 cell and I went for a 200 cell unit. This was on a MR2. The OEM was well documented.

Nationally, it does when you're building a car from scratch. I'm currently mocking up the new turbos in the GT40, and have to get some cats that will pass the IM240 emissions test. Stock 488 cats obviously pass, so was trying to find something like that spec, but in a universal set up.

Thanks for the info, most cats over 200 cell are clumsy looking things, so will look for 200 cell plus and tweak it back with the ecu.

Looks great ! However how you going to pass inspection if you wont to road register in Victoria ? It needs to be engineered ?

I have been through it once a few years ago. I registered the car as stock then did all the alterations.

IIRC Melbourne Performance Centre got me the cat. They actually did my exhaust manifold also.

The car will be fully engineered and have full road registration (not club reg). Custom everything on this one, even carbon ceramic brakes. The 488 engine will pass emissions, no problems.

It'll be dyno'd at MPC, wiring is being done by Proloom, about 100 mtrs up the road!

Last time I heard it has to be engineered and go for the sniff test . Victoria > $3,000 . If pass OK if not you have to pay again for retesting.

MPC tuned my car over 2 weeks. It was a very long time. All MoTec 800 etc etc.

I had circuit board made and did all my extra wiring into the OEM wiring. To hide everything i installed the circuit board and MoTec in a factory ECU.

I had 100's of custom parts made , 5 axis CNC etc. It was a labour of love.

Custom Water / air intercooler. The ends we CNC blocks of aluminium. They are only 3 mm thick. BOV and Wastegate.
