Duct tape can also do the job: it only has to close the nipple against dirt :)
First of all, thanks 100badboy100 for the nice and detailed write up. Finally I did my car after 700 miles of ownership. The sound comes alive below 3k rpm. No more Lexus like quiet. I did it myself without jacking up the car. It was a little tight but it can be done. It took me about one and a half hour to complete. The only cost would be my labor and some vacuum caps I bought from O’Reiley auto parts for under $4. The best mod for the money I have ever done to a car. I used a stainless screw on mine to close the vacuum line. To cover the actuator nipple, I gutted out an old HDMI cable and also placed a small screw to cover the other side.
Question - does this mod affect performance in any way? Even in just a minutia/scientific purposes type of way? Reason I ask out of curiosity is because with my 991.2 GT3 in the owner's manual, there is a mention about turning the Porsche sport exhaust option on (impacting how the OEM valves operate) which supposedly increased torque at low RPMs " When the sports exhaust system is switched on, the exhaust gas backpressure in the lower and middle engine speed ranges is reduced in the variable exhaust system. This produces a noticeable increase in torque in the engine speed range up to approx. 4,000 rpm. This does not change the maximum torque of 339 ftlb. (460 Nm) at 6,000 rpm. "
Recently purchased a 488 GTB. The previous owner had the dealer install a Capristo exhaust valve controller unit when the car was delivered. This unit is easily programmable to default to valves open or valves closed on startup (by simultaneously pressing two buttons on the remote, when the valves are in the desired position).
