    Hello FC
Looking for some advice as I close in on purchasing my first Ferrari.
Currently, we have a deposit on a 2017 488 GTB with 11k miles at FOD.
It's a 4-owner car with consistent records and services since new. The last 2 owners purchased from FOD.
Derek at FOD has been very responsive and great to deal with.
The car has a very nice Focal audio upgrade by a previous owner, and for this reason, FOD is UNABLE to push the car into the Ferrari Approved program because its modified.
Given the choice, I feel more comfortable with a Ferrari Approved car vs a non-FA car.

We are tentatively flying to Denver on Friday to inspect and drive it.
    Questions are:
    1. Who in the greater Denver area can do a PPI?
    2. Should I consider a 3rd party warranty?
    3. Has anyone ever heard of not getting Ferrari approved over an audio upgrade?
    Any advice is greatly appreciated

I'm based in MA, and Ferrari of New England with be my servicing dealer no matter where I purchase.

    Thanks in advance!

From experience even buying from a dealer I recommend getting a private party PPI done.

I have heard that any mod's Ferrari technically can not offer the extended warranty. I was told this on my 2019 488 that had Novitec springs and HRE wheels on it. I'd have to put stock springs and OEM wheels back on to extend my cars warranty. Some people claim to get away with mod's and extended warranty and I brought this up with my dealer but they said too many photo's need to go to Ferrari along with ECU read outs lately to get warranty that the Novitec springs can not be hidden.

As far as the extended Ferrari warranty goes, that is entirely up to you. You are either financially set enough that you can self insure and if anything goes wrong you can pay and not have any financial issues.

As a person/company that bought it first Ferrari roughly a few weeks ago, and having done alll the reseach, talked to several dealers, learned about the Warranty programs inside and outside Ferrari, and doing some hard-core due-dilegence I can offer my experiance. Please note I am not a Ferrari guy so to speak, I come for the Porsche side recently. So I'm not a Ferrari loyalist, or any car brand loyalist, but I am pretty over the top on my research and will give you the straight scope as I see it from a sort of outsiders persepective.

I'll go into the warranty thing below but you said your Car had some aftermarket stuff, so it won't apply unless returned to stock. Obviously this is a personal issue, but for me I didn't want any isssues with warranty coverage whatsoever. They are expensive Cars so you want it easy on yourself in terms of warranty because as has been my experiance with Porshe they will blame every single possible issue on that aftermarket part and try to deny warranty. So with Ferrari and these types of Cars I would not personally chance that unless you like to modify your cars, which is also cool. Keep in mind that Ferrari and Porsche cannot claim your warranty is void for a Stereo or Changing a Battery or small stuff like because of the Magnuson Moss act ( to long to explain here), because you CAN put in some normal aftermarket products and not void warranties... BUT the kicker is they can say they won't give you the Ferrari CPO, then you won't be able to take advantage of Ferrari Warranties... keep also in mind that your warranty at Ferrari goes with the Car so if you have it you can offer that later if you sell the Car. My personal decision was for this car I just prefered to stay with Ferrari's stuff because I felt I had more leverage if something went wrong and it keeps it all in house. If I was buying a car to modify, do tunes on and such I most likely wouldn't go that route.

So for the Cars to have Ferraris CPO version they have a check list, and you can't have aftermarket stuff. Even McLaren will not CPO your car if you painted the disk calipers a differrent color than original specs. So they have these lists to CPO the car and they will hold absolutely to those lists with no allowences, because they don't want to mess around with an aftermarket product messing up their system in anyway... and they don't know who installed that Stereo on in your Car and they could have splices into a 12v circuit that Ferrari doesn't want powering that Stereo.... so they do have a good point to watch this as a business.

3rd Party warranties can have issues... as I assume a Ferrari warranty possibly could, but after trying to nail down what is covered, the 3rd party warranties do not seem to have the best records of paying out for repairs or can take a long time from my reserach. Since your car is older than mine (a 2022 296) I don't know if Ferrari only offers you the Power 15, or the other one that actually covers much more (can't recall the name of it) . The Power15 is mostly Powertrain stuff and some other stuff, but limited for alot of the other stuff like oil leaks and other stuff, so I sugest you contact Ferrari and ask them to go over the available warranties for you Car, but don't settle on the Power 15 if you can get the next level better... so ask them. I bargined for additional time and the Bumpber to Bumper Factory one... but again my car is newer so it had some of it left but they gave me another year as I recall or they give you a year if you buy a year. But I would personally stay with Ferrari warranties if you going to keep it stock and going to deal with Ferrari for the most part.

Thank you for the reply @Antigravity Batteries !
I'm pushing for the dealer to Ferrari-Approve the vehicle with the "modified" stereo and that seems to disqualify the process as they need to return the vehicle to original specification.
The only offered factory warranty would be the Power 15 (major components) compared to a full CPO that you could get on a newer vehicle.
The car has good records for factory services every year is a plus and the last 2 owners bought and serviced at FOD (I am in MA)
I'm on the fence with 3rd party warranties- as read here, they seem to be not worth the paper they are printed on.
Still seeking a PPI resource in Denver area- One gent can't do it till the end of May, and that's not an option.

I wish you the best, I remember that feeling of just wanting to get it done... just remember to hold our for what feels right and get it checked... basic stuff everyone says.
