So, getting acquainted with the 488 and decided to make the 5 hour trip to Ottawa in it instead of flying. I must say that I am in awe. Handling and power and everything just seems built for me. The car is beautiful. I will be putting tons of miles on it but it won’t be a daily driver for me, yet I could see it easily being one for some guys. Surprisingly, it wasn’t getting swarmed with “fans” on the road which made the trip less stressful and more enjoyable.
My car is equipped with the Large Gold rake race seats with the yellow stripe and they are very comfortable. Carbon driver zone, bridge, and everywhere else is a really nice compliment to the full black leather and the yellow stitched interior and yellow rev counter are elegant. It is equipped with the Premium sound system but needs (and will get) a base driver. Fuel mileage was actually very good as I wasn’t hammering it for sustained periods, just shaking it out and needing to get to my meeting in time.
The exhaust was actually surprisingly beefier than I was expecting but I will be tweaking it with a VooDoo X-pipe and 100 cell Kline cats as I am looking for a crisp snap and a higher pitch sound. In advance of the car delivery I purchased a set of 20/21 strasse “carbon look” wheels with 255/30 fronts and 355/25s on the rear and had them installed as soon as I took the car off the delivery truck. They are perfect. I can see that I only need to lower the car about a 1/2” to get the stance I am looking for. I bought a few subtle carbon pieces from Fredrick such as the middle splitter, Ryft tips, rear light caps etc which will add some classy touches to the car. So with these minor mods and adjustments, the car will be perfect for me.

    Back to the trip....
On the way back However the car was having all kinds of Fault codes, and had to reset the car twice (shut it down, wait for 10 minutes, start it up etc...). The last time displayed engine management failure/ediff failure/maneitto failure and a cat fault and was running really rough. After resetting, (this time took longer), engine light persisted. Obviously the battery is fried so I will swap it out but I think the codes will need to be cleared. This held me up a bit on the return and made for a longer day then I wanted but all in all, an extremely enjoyable jaunt (and a successful meeting).

Ultimately and Interestingly, I prefer my 05 Ford GT right now but having said that, I had that delivered to my spec. and I think that once I make these adjustments to the 488 to my spec.it will equal it out.

I look forward to the ownership and meeting some of you as I am in the Toronto area.

Edit: the trip was only about 600 miles some reason I added the total as 600 each way. It’s only 300 miles each way. Can’t seem to edit title.

that sounds like an amazing trip in an amazing car. Any idea why those fault codes kept popping up and why the battery would be fried? It’s those types of issues that scare me about taking long drives.

    Congrats on 488.

Regards to your 488 (fault codes): how many miles on the odometer? year? Any tune being done? Or any alter with engine, etc.?

To clarify, the trip was just over 600 miles not 1200. My mistake, doubled the total mileage instead of the one way...

I didn’t make a big deal about the fault codes because I hadn’t changed the battery and it sat for a while before I bought it, the faults are consistent with a weak battery. The car worked great in general. There is no better way to figure out how to make the car yours then to take it on a long road trip and discover the changes that you want to make it better for you. I reset the car and it (mostly) went back to normal. Most important It didn’t leave me stranded
The bass driver was really the only unexpected thing to change (other than the battery lol).

Never worry about taking a car on a road trip. I’ve driven several of my cars across country and it makes it that much more special in an exotic

    It is a 2016
The car came beautifully stock and I checked all areas for potential removed mods and it doesn’t appear there were any.
The car has now 25K miles and I am the third owner.
Yes, the car will receive a mild tune to accommodate the exhaust mods.

Every time I bought a Ferrari, unless they literally put a brand new battery in it before my purchase, I typically put one in. I always get interstate AGM. Batteries are the funny things on these cars. That’s what I like to know exactly what was put in and when.

Love your car Julius!!!! Race seat too! Oh yes! The 488 is totally a magnificent driving car. Your fault codes are low battery. Replace it and they will go away. It happens real easy on these cars 458-488-F8. I replace my 488 battery every 1.5 yrs and never (knock on wood) fault codes on my 488.

Thank you M, Magnificent is an excellent term for this car. My adjustments and mods are going to perfect it. It is a permanent part of my collection just by looks alone, but yes, the spec is killer.

How do you turn off the twin interior “ambience” lighting?

I love the light as it’s very subtle and perfectly placed, but I’d like that “on demand” as I prefer a completely darkened cabin when night driving

Ferraris don’t have any ambient lighting. Not sure what you’re talking about.

The forward cabin ceiling console, there is two “micro” lamps. Very hard to see. They emit a very subtle pleasant light. I would like to turn them off.
I’m at the lake house right now, will snap pics when I get back tomorrow

Congrats. I was looking at this same car when it got posted but ultimately went with a 458 instead.

for sure, not taking anything away from the 458, but the back of the car, the intakes and the hood finish it off.
