488 GTB (458 replacement)

In order to keep the performance with McLaren, if Ferrari is still using the NA engine, they will need super huge investment, while all McLaren needs to do, is add some boost. The 650S is actually a 12C with different suspension setting and EXTRA BOOST. But Speciale is a huge upgrade from 458, aerodynamics, different engine material, and lighter weight (this is the most expensive stuff).
Now Ferrari is trying to save the $$$ from engine development. By using turbo, Ferrari can joint the extra-boost-club. I bet when the 458's successor is launched, many local custom stores will be able to upgrade the Cali T to be as fast as or even faster than it in straight performance. We have plenty of local custom stores which are good in extra boost stuff.
But like what you said, who cares about speed when VW Golf GTI is already too fast? When we pay expensive $$$, we want something that look good and sound good.

 

Bro, the 63 Amg is using a fake sound. If you roll down the window, the sound is actually less louder than window shut. I think it comes out from the stereo.

 

Just install some aftermarket pipes and you are good. Luckily the v12s will stay n/a and use a hybird system. U know what we really need? We need someone to produce a completly new turbo design that doesnt disrupt the sound. Near impossible but gotta try especially since the president just stepped down, ferrari really needs a boost in this turbo showoff

 

The car will be shown in Geneva next year in march. So it will be on street in small numbers before summer break of the factory in august.

I have seen the mule testing on public street 2 weeks ago. I was at the factory for private viewing of Speciale Spider and configure it at the atelier.
The CEO of Ferrari Germany confirmed the Geneva date and the turbo engine. Production of 458 ends in March/April 2015.

It was awful. But it was a mule, so there is hope for the production model.
It was the new engine in the 458 Italia body. It will be an update like 360 to 430. Same base car in terms of body-structure with new design of the bodywork.

I think the air intake should be located behind the door, not in front of. No???

 

It's probably at the rear. But as the car's a mule, to hide the design changes to the door panel/sill, they've taped up the side creating an air tunnel of some sort (leading to the proper intake aft of the door).

I can relate your statement and agree with you. If Ferrari really does what you said then Its gonna be a nightmare for the Ferrari lovers, To me always good to save the best of the last, I am collecting V12 599GTO because of F1 transmission (limited) and 458 Speciale Spider (limited) because of V8 NA engine. These are their era of the history generation.

 

They would also have to make it turn properly.

 

Larger turbo and software remap? You are describing the approach from your local custom store colleagues, maybe a little bit too simple for a company like Ferrari.

And they are all the same? All are using a V8 turbo? Audi R8 V8 N/A and V10 N/A, Lambo V10 N/A, Porsche V6 N/A and V6 turbo, Aston Martin V8 N/A and V12 N/A.

Lambo is getting criticism for some of the handling characteristics of the new Huracan. But the new Huracan is the base model - the model really meant to appeal to newcomers and other first time buyers. They don't want to purchase an intimidating car, so the base Huracan has a friendly setup with a wide front track and so on. It's certainly not a true "driver's car" and not for me, but I can see the car in tune with it's intended buyer group. People who don't have supercar experience, don't have x amount of laps on a track, people who don't study racing lines and posess a knowledge of general sporting driving principles. The new base Huracan is their starter car.

But LP-6x0-2 versions are coming, and more. If they made a sick car out of the box, there would be no room for the gazillion special versions.

But before they release those, they need to fix the awful seats.

 

It is happening, the 458's successor is Cali T with extra boost. It's totally the same engine, with more power, just like Hennesy and Switzer used to do. There are packages like for $20,000 extra 200 hp, for $40,000 extra 400 hp, for $60,000 you get a new turbo, extra 600 hp.
And bringing down the capacity of the engine and lowering the rev make a huge saving in material used. Before, all engine needed to be highly tuned. With turbo, just use a standard tuned for durability purpose, and BOOST IT for power.

 

Did Luca basically handle the development of the 458M to the point where it is now complete or can the new president change around things on the car? I the last thing I would want is the new guy messing with the magic Luca give to all the cars.

 

Luca is gone. But the tech team is unchanged. Sergio will not influence the technologically related aspects of the 458M other than a possible increase in production numbers IMO.

However, the new guy is making statements such as "Ferrari is now an American company." How am I suppose to feel confident in his ability to take the company further instead of turning it into something generic?

That looks awesome but too much like a LaF.

 

i read a pre-test of the AMG GTS and they were very happy with the engine sound and mentioned the almost linear power delivery of the engine. if mercedes can get a turbo right, then maybe ferrari as well. there is hoping....
