I'd have thought that as well, but it seems not to be the case on the Porsche boards. Most everyone getting a $100K Cayman could get a GT3 if they wanted. A lot of excitement around this car. IIRC, a certain someone on here seemed super excited about it. Said something like the GT3 would be the better car if it had different gear and a manual. PDK is great on the track, but boring on the road. Thinks it will be the best road car Porsche sells.
Keep dreaming...and BTW for a 'road' car the last thing you want is a stick sitting in traffic. Anyways, grab one...there will be plenty out there LOL Okay back to reality 488 talk.
Go tell them that... BTW, the person I'm paraphrasing there has stuff like LF, F1 GTR, 4.0, GT1, LFA, Cup car, etc. If he says that's what he wants in a road car, I'm pretty sure that's what he wants. I'd say he's well versed in the virtues of both road and track cars. People have been getting stuck in traffic with manual cars for the last 100 years. It's not a big deal, nor is it difficult or that common of an occurrence. Where do you go that you get stuck in traffic so often? Los Angeles at rush hour? It's nice to have an automatic at those times, but a manual is far from the last thing you want in a road car.
Manuals are fun. I drove one everyday for many years. The cars I am interested in no longer come with them. My last manual Ferrari was 360. I thought I wanted a manual 430 until I tried an F1. I for one don't miss them. It's not about traffic it's about performance. YMMV.
Man, just read some really ignorant non driver oriented comments here. Cayman is a cayman? Yes. Cayman is definitely a cayman. One of the best drivers cars out there. I own one. And i own a GT3. And I own a Speciale. Cayman is the Sh*t. GT4 will be epic. Man... the things people say...
Thankfully a bit of sense restored to this thread. Manuals 'not for the road' and 'don't buy a manual because it's poor in traffic?!' How 'bout 'don't buy a Ferrari because it's not as good as a Hyundai in traffic either?' A crisp, brilliant, Porsche manual gearbox is such a pleasure to use. And personally, I couldn't care less what people think of the cars I buy. The GT4 will be brilliant, utterly brilliant is my best guess and I'm seriously thinking of adding it to my stable of Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren. I love the progress of technology and wouldn't dream of saying my 12C would be better with a manual, but to say that no car is better with a manual gearbox is way off. Think of the GT4 as your 'wife's' car if you wish, all the while those 'cheapskate' Cayman drivers will be having a great time (and by the way, some of them will be blowing you and your PDK away too - driver skill will always make a much bigger difference to laptime than PDK).
Racing at DE/lapping days is radical! : P I better get the fastest car so I can win...ehhhh...the session? A hot dog? Silly argument. More fun to be in similar power/spec cars and see who is actually faster. Or, passing a car you should not be able to pass because you have taken the better line, etc. Or, just seeing how much better/faster you can get - since 99% of people aren't going 10/10ths anyway. It's boring blowing away cars that should be blown away lap after lap. Why are we talking about Volkswagens anyway? Back to Ferrari : P
Is the 488 a facelift or a complete new car? Does it share the same chassis as the 458? If so, then it shouldn't really be called a replacement for the 458 but instead an evolution? It's a nice car..but looks like a 458 with a body kit. The main reason I'd want one is for performance. But for now I'll stick to my italia.
New R8 one of few NA engines on the market http://images.cdn.autocar.co.uk/sites/autocar.co.uk/files/styles/gallery_slide/public/images/car-reviews/first-drives/legacy/audir8genevatease.jpg?itok=c51UKki0
All will be revealed in a few weeks. I know it would seem strange to have R8 over 601HP, but I bet it happens in Plus, and 2016 Huracan gets a bump to 625++...place your bets now.
I wouldn't doubt if under 600 on non-plus...will be interesting to see what they do with Plus. Maybe right at 600 vs 601 just to appease the VW gods at HQ. Either way, looking forward to unveil finally!
I have no inside info but I assume they will. It has been a good seller. Please note my RS5 has a 450 hp na V8 while the current R8 na V8 is 425 hp. I would think they would put the RS5 engine in there. 8250 red line. Sounds good. Really comes on over 5000 rpm. And you can get carbon fiber trim on it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
What will be future for RS5? Next generation still NA? AUDI build supercharged V6, so why V8 can't be supercharged instead of turbo?
