Upon close examination of the factory introduction photos from yesterday, it seems that the producers of the renderings that were revealed on February 3 indeed took some license in depicting the car's appearance. The creases that start at the front of the door scoops and carry over onto the bumper, mid-wheel, as well as the sculpturing at the bottom of the front bumper and the doors, appear quite pronounced in the renderings. In the photos of the actual cars, both the metallic gray and red models, these items are quite subdued. In fact, at a quick glance, absent the huge intake in the quarter panel, the side of the car is almost indistinguishable from the same view of the 458. The lower quarter panel crease line between the rear door cut line and the leading edge of the rear wheel cutout is the only major departure from the 458 (again, excluding the engine vent). I'd like to see identical photos of a 458 and a 488, in the same color, to really compare the two designs. So far, it looks to me like a bit of sleight of hand, similar to the manner in which '50s and '60s illustrators stretched and lowered the bodies of American cars, making them appear more sleek than they actually looked in real life. I did think the the side creases were far too edgy, making for visually separating the side panels and creating a disjointed look. If the real car is more subdued there, that is good news.

Ditto. A bit more restraint would have worked better, stopping short of giving the impression that the design is flirting with vulgarity.

I agree 200%. From the side profile I swear I was looking at a 458.

did anyone see this picture? basically it is saying the throttle response is equivalent to the naturally aspirated 458. i seriously doubt it...

I do doubt it. It shows a lag of 0.6 sec at 2000 RPM for the 458. I don't know how they define this, but my 458 responds instantly at all RPM.

I posted earlier today in this thread about the exaggeration in the Feb. 3 renderings of certain features on the sides of the 488. With each picture I view from yesterday's factory announcement event, I see even more evidence of exaggeration. The sculpturing on the hood, which was so apparent in the earlier-released renderings of the 488, seems hardly visible in the photos of actual 488 coupes. I realize that lighting plays its part, but it seems to me that the illustrators really went a bit far in "imagining" the 488 design. I'm wondering whether this might have been done to give the preview renderings more of a resemblance to the La Ferrari. If that is the case, it betrays a lack of confidence on Ferrari's part in the styling of the 488. Fred

Maybe they make 458 specification looks worse to 488 performance looks better

EDIT - Ok, I'm too confused LOL. Actually it shows the response time for the 488 slightly to the right of the 458 does it not? So more power, but slightly less response. Or am I reading it wrong...again?

Yah 2k RPM in 3rd gear (it says III gear) is about the worst case for an NA engine. If you rev it out for max acceleration, you will never see 2k after the initial acceleration. Furthermore, at a track, you will never see it except when you pull out from the pits.

So yah...looks like they are trying to make the 488 look better. Keep in mind that it is more power too so, not just a loss of response.

I'd like to see the actual throttle response at 6k on both engines. That really tells you the character when driven at the limit...
