I have 2018 488 GTB, I turned on the car recently and after about 30 seconds, i saw some check engine control system failure message. I shut down the car.. turned it on again.. no errors. drove it for about 10 minutes.. no errors. Everything seems normal. Then i pay attention to battery.

I noticed the voltage of the battery is changing from about 11.8v to around 13.5.. after acceleration it reaches about 14v. and when i cruise it keeps changing betwen 11.8 to about 13.7.

Battery is Ferrari OEM and its about 2 years old.. drove about 12,000 KM with it. Car ia always on tender.

Do u think its battery dying and need replacement? Or it could be something else

Probably battery but no way any of us can tell here on a forum. 2yrs is ok for a top quality battery that will probably last 4yrs on a car driven and battery maintained. I got 3yrs out of my Ferrari stock battery on a 2019 488, then I put in an Interstate battery and it was strong for the remaining 3 years I had the car. If you need a new battery get a Interstate if you have them in your country but the stock battery Ferrari uses is well known to now last and be not a great quality battery.

I would have thought that was normal behaviour as you are measuring the battery voltage while the car is being charged by the alternator. Hence the increase while under acceleration.

Test the battery when car is off. In my experience the OEM batteries only last 3 years so you are getting close. Just keep a battery starter in the frunk and keep calm and carry on.

I’ve been watching mine the last couple weeks after a starting hiccup caused errors. My 458 (always on factory tender) will be 11.8 when the key is first turned but quickly rises above 13 on start. Will be 14.2 or so at first but settle in at a steady 13.6 thereafter. I think you need a battery if it’s dipping that far with the engine running.

Don't know if 488 has the "smart" type of charging system that goes offline during normal drives for "Increased fuel economy" but some later cars do. They will show the 14.2 v on startup for awhile and after the battery has been replenished, essentially go off line and register only battery voltage 12.4 for the above stated reason. If you turn on the lights for example, it immediately goes back to 14.2 V while running/driving. This intelligent alternator system is on later model cars, but I don't know if Ferrari ever adopted such a system, but if so, this may actually reflect normal behavior and fools you into thinking its not charging sometimes. FWIW

I'm fairly sure that I read somewhere that the 488 does have this system.
