    Hi

Has anyone pimped up,their engine bay with the Red silicone intake hoses? I'm looking at doing it to bling up the engine bay a bit.

If anyone has done this would be good to understand the following...

Were they easy to fit is there enough play in the pipes to get them or and off?

Did you go for the fabspeed ones or an alternative?

    Regards

    Michael

Hi Michael, yes I did. I took the fab speed ones and they are a pain to get on, but look great.

    Hi Robert

I do like the look of them I'm just working out whether to get the fabspeed ones or source some alternatives.

Thanks for sharing the pictures will let you know how I get on fitting them, as the silicone won't be as flexible as the corrugated factory ones..!

    Regards

    Michael

    Hi Colin

So I was going to wait a few days to share with everyone...but I have just ordered the correct diameter hoses from eBay!

The size for those that are interested is 90mm internal diameter. The length of the hoses is about 95mm.

So I have ordered these 100mm length hoses and will just cut them down when they arrive.

Very interesting the difference in price between these and the ones that are sold as model specific for the 488 .....(Ferrari Tax!!!) these are £6.95 each and I think the model specific ones are £208 !!

They should be here this week and will fit them at the weekend and post some pics to share.

    Regards

    Michael

That's a result Michael!.....look forward to seeing the pictures, just make sure you get a decent hose cutter to ensure a clean square cut....the factory hose clips are a mile too long as well.

Too much ;) I looked at the other ones too but didn’t want to take the risk, as limited as the risk is....

That's great information and a really nice improvement in engine bay appearance; it really pops with a touch more color. Is the thickness the same as OEM? If 95mm length is the correct length, can the hoses be ordered that way of is 100mm the only way they can be ordered? Even so, I would think that 5mm would might be a bit tight but should work without cutting. Thank you for the information.

Can anybody confirm if this is the same size hose required for the 458 also?

Just had a closer look at my 458 and realise why Fabspeed don't offer the red hoses for this car, on the 458 there is a vacuum takeoff that comes from the hose, it is molded in the original Ferrari black pipe, unlike the 488 version which has the take off further up the pipework. So I'll have to forget that plan!

But they will not cut the hose to its proper length. IMO, a must for a clean and proper job.

I will share my results hopefully this weekend if I get time to do them.

Using a hose clip and new blade is the best way to cut the hose as above I'm sure I will get a good result

I just purchased a set measuring 90mm ID x 102mm in length. As noted above, the approximate length is 95mm, so the hoses I purchased will be approximately 1/4" longer. I would think that they would fit without the need to trim 1/4" from the length, but we'll see how it works out. BTW, my car is scheduled to arrive until April - just doing some proactive shopping.

I purchased a set of red silicone couplers and they arrived exactly as described. That said, I have requested another set WITHOUT the white logo which I find unacceptable and will not install on my car. I experimented with removing the logo, but it was difficult and ultimately resulted in dulling the finish where the logo was removed. I am working with various abrasives and polishing products to restore the finish to an acceptable level. I will follow up after I hear back from the supplier, and I will post before and after photos (with and without the logo).

I moved the logo to the bottom so you can’t see it

I absolutely would have done likewise except that the couplings I purchased have two logos about 130 degrees apart. I could hide one but not both!

Before and after. Personal choice, but for me, the flat look that came about as a result of the logo removal will blend better with carbonless engine compartment.

    Hi

After a bit of hassle fitting them, I then took them off again as I didn't like the look of them....

    Still they were cheap..

Mine only had 1 logo and I hid it at the bottom but now put back to stock..

    Regards

    Michael

Was the diameter or the length the problem? Was it necessary to trim the length.
