What specifically happened to the 2 engines? For some reason it seems more common to see tuned McLaren’s putting out 7-800 horsepower and that can significantly effect the durability of the engine. I think it’s irresponsible to make such broad statements about a car company based on anecdotal accounts. McLaren has made at least 25,000 cars since the first 12C in 2011. Of the 25,000 cars, how many of those cars do you have a first hand knowledge of the service history?
I’ve owned Ferrari’s for over 30 years and I know many owners of late model Ferrari’s that would strongly dispute any notion that maintaining a Ferrari is not potentially a very expensive proposition.

Both cars were stock and not tuned.

I buy and sell these cars. With the majority of my problem cars being murci and McLaren.

I frequently have McLarens with folders with 40k in repairs. I have had more than I can count on one hand with 80k in maintenance and repair.

One an outlier had 87k in repairs and it had 15k miles.

The 720s and the cars with the hydroloc suspension typically need their shocks rebuilt every 2 years at a cost of 2k a corner.

Had to buy a rear window for a 675lt... It's 28k.

Had to buy an instrument cluster for a 570s... Took forever cost 8k and still didn't fix the problem... Due to it being an electrical party... The dealer did not take it on return (the car was at the dealer and had to pay for a fix that didn't fix the car)

I'm out on McLarens.

Are all McLarens bad? No. Of course not n

But it's the last car id put 10k miles a year on.

I've owned all but one of those choices and many other super cars. The 488GTB is my current favorite, it's smooth as silk on track and sounds great with exhaust. It aged VERY well.

Lots of great comments already. But I’ll add a big +1 for the 600LT. Yes it’s pricey if you’re going to drive it 10k miles, but if you’re proactive with service and maintenance you won’t run into any major issues.

I’m a huge Ferrari fan, but after owning a 458, an F8, an Scud, a 355 and an 812 GTS, I just think the LT is better than all dynamically speaking, both at the track and the mountain pass. The weight difference with the Ferraris and the amazing steering and engine note make it a very special car. I’ve had mine for 3 yrs and 17k miles, including about 20 track days. No major issues so far.
