received an e-mail from my dealer which wants to set up a phone call to discuss the 488 "light weight" edition tomorrow.

Note: I haven't contacted them or expressed any interest or even talked to them in over a year. I've only bought one car from them (f12) and I took a bloodbath on it. (this is in USA).

Full disclosure; I've bought 4 ferrari's. 3 at different ferrari dealers and one at a non ferrari dealer. I am pretty connected to many of the VIP clients on the Ferrari side of things (my friends).

Come on man... I don't want to ruin the Ferrari depreciation mystique. One year 2015, 4,500 miles bought brand new for $370K. Wholesaled for $280K. had a few offers between $305 to $312K but either the buyers didn't get approved financing or backed out. Just got tired of it after 4 months and had an offer from a broker so I had it wholesaled.

Will see how it goes. Not an automatic that I'll buy it. I'm kind of surprised that they want to talk to me about it.

You cannot even imagine how we Italian enthusiasts are laughing of that "allocation fever" that all the world has of cannot buy an unlimited production car that will cost 400k loaded. Maybe, two years later, many here will receive a call " sir we will launch another lot of production, could you be interested in getting one?". You already got one, please consider how many there will be within two or three years when the 488 replacement test mule will be spotted on the road (and we all know it will be a very much different car). Welcome into the real world! ;)

    Ciao

Just had the discussion with the dealer. They didn't even wait for me to call them.

    What I was told is quite a bit different from what is being posted in this thread;

Dealer should have a couple of these cars this year.
having a 488 is not the requirement or even buying a 488 is not a requirement. Having a 488 doesn't help either. However, person will have to buy a less desirable v12 car (mandated by ferrari themselves)

I'm thinking that the plan might not be going over so well (Like I said; I'm surprised that I got the call based on the fever in this thread (btw; I know a lot of exotic car owners and the hype in this thread isn't there in real life)).

For the regular allocations ( (non VIP)which I was offered)); there would be no cross referencing a list from ferrari. Purely dealer decision. They don't seem too selective in sending out invites to the 20th live stream. I have one and not sure which way I am going to go with buying this car.

Must be different in the US because I have two friends who have been declined. One has had a 550, 430, 2 x 458, 458 Spider, Speciale, F12 and 812 on order, no 488 GTO. The other has had a string of V8 Ferraris, a 599 and 3 Speciales, no 488 GTO. I’m hearing reports all over that the car is very hard to get an allocation for at present. No doubt it could lighten up after first deliveries, but at the moment dealers seem prepared to disppoint customers like these saying there is not much hope. If you got an allocation, well done. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it.

Since you are in the USA the less desirable V12 (Lusso not 812) is being discontinued in May of 2018 for the USA market?
Ferrari is having trouble selling out the 2018 builds???

First of all thanks for the update :) So I'm assuming that the less desirable V12 is the Lusso and the dealer is claiming
Ferrari themselves are insisting on this arrangement ?? Wow If the same is proposed to me I'll have to pass

It's quite possible that some dealers might not want to get a bad reputation by telling a person who owns multiple cars that they will have to buy another one and instead what you to figure it out. Other dealers are pretty overt in telling you what you need to do to get it. Maybe people's approaches are wrong to this. Offer to buy a LUSSO and the answer might change. My sales guy said that Ferrari is strongly encouraging that a Lusso is a must. I circled back and wanted to make sure that I fully understood. Having a 488 or buying a 488 wasn't going to get it done. Lusso was a must. (short term lease, etc.).

I think it could be either way and that it depends a lot on your "standing" and on the dealership...you can be one of the dealers topclients without buying a Lusso if you ordered three others in the past year or two but also when your dealership has 10-15 of these people who buy a lot..then a "less desirable" model might help...i guess its different everywhere..

Even If you zero purchase history buying a Lusso gets you any V8 LE here in the US

The way he framed it to me was that for the dealer to get more allocations then they were going to have to order more Lusso's from Ferrari. It would be sort of pass it on to the customer. ie., to get the allocation the dea;er jas to order a lusso so you gotta take both because without the lusso order they won't get the allocation to give to you.

That's usually how this stuff works anyways. I'm more versed on the mclaren side of things. The dealers got more 720s allocations if they ordered/moved more 570's.

    Thank you for your reply.
The V12 Lusso could become a collector car if Ferrari discontinues that model for the USA market. People often seem to want what they can't have...:)

It would be incredible if people will be starting to "want" a Lusso because it is discontinued.

I guess you can feel blessed that you "have" to buy a LussoV12 lol! I waited almost a year for mine and now the hype has vanished mysteriously for these cars!?!? And I can appreciate your depreciation sentiment, I have never made money on any of my cars and I will probably lose the most on my very highly optioned CaliTHS. My FF could have been really bad but I got really lucky with the purchase and trade-in timing.

In Canada the used market on high priced regular series cars is very unpredictable and slow.
