Im always amazed how you sing praises of 997gt3 when after 4 years of ownership, dd, and hpde, I consider it worst car ive owned.

I guess the 911 (I once owned one) is a nice and capable car, nothing to complain. It must be good, otherwise it would not park at every corner...

But what really bugs me in the meantime is the 911 model policy: 991 GT3, GT3 RS, R, 991.2 GT3, GT2 RS, GT3 Touring-Package, and hey, this is just the NA madness. The even greater madness you can find in the turbo line with Turbo (520 PS/540 PS), Turbo S (560 PS/580 PS), Turbo S Exclusive (607 PS), GT2 RS (700 PS), don't forget all the super nice overboost features you can buy with the Sport Chrono Packages. No, not my cup of tea.

my 997gt3 was a misery on the street. uncomfortable ride despite 2 way shocks, exhaust constantly opening and closing depending on rpm, heavy clutch. and this is only my memory from 5 yrs ago. im sure there were other complaints i forgot about

and then on track it was even worse. extremely unstable braking even in straight line, notchy shifter that causes missed shifts, understeer into corner followed by oversteer on way out. plus it was unreliable stranding me at track with radiator leak and probably had limited slip fail too. and as to vaunted structural integrity of porsche, the glove box and cup holders would not stay shut after a track day which i assume is due to chassis flex.

on a positive note, it did have awesome steering feel.

There are numerous Speciales on Autotrader with asking prices in the $380-390K range. With 1-2K miles, they are essentially new cars.

Of course a 458 is exctiting at sane speeds, as long as one knows how to drive spiritedly.

mid-engine car with a superior substance, held weak and down by Porsche in favor of the "cash-cow" 911.

Really? Not including salvage cars, where do you find this? Not every Speciale MSRP was north of 400K, in fact, very few were. Some down in the low 300s for MSRP. I definitely have not seen any listed below their MSRP. Thanks for the update.

Bought a 991 RS recently and absolutely love it. It’s different to my Speciale but it comes very close to its brilliance and as a daily car it is even better and more practical. The noise is off-the-scale, simply fabulous.

I love the PDK and wouldn’t bother with a manual GT3.

No comparison 488VS is not an LE, let alone a hyper car.

Car will be 50kg lighter (till you upgrade the HiFi etc and put it back to standard 488 Kgs), will be a touch over 720 Bhp as it has to be, will have 4WS, a bit more aero, livery and no carpets !

There you go who needs Geneva. 586 posts later !

Then there will 699 Apertas in 2020.

Autotrader. Maybe $380’s is at or slightly above MSRP? Seems like very nice specs to have been low $300K’s.

My point was that the Speciale hardly qualifies as unobtainium.

I understand, even when you could order them you didn't have to be a privileged customer (from what I have been told).

I know of a car with MSRP of 404K and another with MSRP of 310K, so, just like current models, option loading dramatically affects MSRP (the 404K car had blue carbon fiber mirrors and interior parts, awesome, whereas the 310K didn't even have stripes) So, i think 380K MSRP is actually a fair bit above average range...

On Autotrader right now, lowest listed price I find in USA is 379K, I have never seen any in low 300s except for salvage

Correction, 358K, in the featured listings, that's the lowest price, but, that car has been 'for sale' for a while and as I under it was a dealer demo, so, probably a rough history.

never drove one on track so cant comment, seemed great on street, and I have seen more than a few on track.
The carerrar Gt didnt have the same good steering feel as the Gt3, which was inetresting.

ill beg to differ, but then I never went over 130ish driving one.

My Pro AMA Bike racer friend who has a 458 calls it useless, too fast for the street, too numb at any reasonoble road speeds, and by reasonoble he means jail time road speeds. He's looking for a challenge car.

You had to be priveledged. And later if you didnt add enough options, priveledged or not they wouldnt build you a car.

Anyway off to try a 488 tomorrow, for perspective.

i think i have said this before> But when I buy a car its a new one. I like to know what its been through, and my experience has shown me that the first few thousand miles is everthiug to how a car lasts, since I dont sell thats important.

My opinion, ferrai will look at proche and if the GT3 manual sells well enough we'll see manual ferrari.

im not so sure porsche will sell as many manuals as people think. for sure the initial speculators will want manuals for resale but after 1st year, i imagine pdk will outsell stickshift. and ferrari will never offer a stick. will be interesting to follow the situation

    Yep interesting to follow.
I do think stick cars need to come along in batches here and there, not necessarily a constant stream..

Nope you have to be into the whole porche thing. I have never been able to groove witht he porche thing. I did like drivign the 997 Gt3. The aircooled ones I could never get comfortable in.

Mostly I like Italian British and American iron. Everyone has their tastes.

However if porche offers a Gt4 Rs with a real Gt3 mtor, thats really apealign, as is a really nice mid engiend vette, or aCf mid engined amg powered aston.

All that being said none would quite hit the spot like a real viceral raw ferrari, because no one makes motors like the Italians, and when they get stryling right(458) no one quite hits it like them.. However ferrari does not make raw viceral cars.

boxer, why arent you into lambo performante?
Its got everything - na motor, incredible sound, next gen aero, great reviews, good looks, dealer wont make you jump through hoops to get one...
how much better can 488gto be esp considering turbo puts it at disadvantage imo?
my only complaints about lambo is claustrophobic cockpit (wish they made it a targa) and too expensive to track

    Nice.
Are you considering a 488. Did you sell the gt?

Are you going to dealer locally or private viewing?

    Good luck
