correct point. but i guess they could manage it based on the 488GTB platform to not need the new/full vehicle type examination.

same happend with the .2GT3 and its new engine as far i remember. it was based on the .1 or even on the base model 991.

Challenge owners do not need a track oriented road car because they already have a real track car, Speciale owners despise the turbochargers - so 488 owners move up the line :D

Funny as my European contract for the 488VS specifically states "if approved by Ferrari".

Dealers (no matter what part of the world they are in) sell cars for a living so it is natural (and in their best interest) to give assurances (no matter how unrealistic) where deemed necessary. Ferrari is the supplier and therefore hold the last word. As potential buyers we get to live in hope.
Ridiculous as it all seems, it's the buyers money that keeps both dealer and supplier in existence, yet, we get caught up in "the game".

488 owners won't be in a privy position regarding allocation. Priority goes to Challenge car owners who will each receive one of 95 unique cars through tailor made.. Then Ferrari has a pre selected list which is sent to dealers . Dealers can ignore this list if they so wish. Dealers will call the customers for an instant yes or no answer, and I believe that is happening Monday.
Aperta will follow in September. Then the interesting bit. There will be a final limited edition numbered car after that.
Car will be unveiled to the press 16th Feb, then private showing in each dealership on the 20th. name to be announced at Geneva.

Then I guess if I don't get a call Monday I know I'm f/ked. Oh well at least I have a good fall back position having a definite 2rs allocation. As good as its been so far, 488 may wind up being my first and last Ferrari if I get struck off....out of principle.

Sounds similar to what I heard. Basically to get one of these cars you are going to have to have spent more money than just previously bought a 488 you're going to have to spend a lot of money with Ferrari... basically bought just about every single model that has come out and been offered to you for a couple of years or have spent a lot with their race programs. Basically the more you spend and are loyal to your dealer and always sell your car back to them so they can then resell at a profit then you move up the Ferrari priority ladder.

btw, estimated production number is 4000 cars, so no one should worry not to get one...not sure if this includes the aperta or so...
and the rear spoiler is supposed to be really really aggressive.

Ferrari have special video that will play only once. Each dealership preview event will be on a screen. After playing the video once, it will not replay. This stops Staff watching and leaking.

If that's the case, and I understand it is including the Aperta, you are right, and it's another triumph of marketing.

have bought 488 GTB and Spider and told in my case very unlikely which is a disappointment as the desire to own is high. But Ferrari want to make an example about flippers and want to sell these special cars to customers who have racing in their blood. I think it's a good decision. Oh and if you flipped a 458 Speciale outside the dealer network within 18 months, you've shot yourself in the foot there..
