I have in my 488 spider a combo of alcantara on the dashboard (hate the reflection from the leather dash) and doors The seats have both leather and alcantara so I get the leather smell along with the comfort of the alcantara (to me the all leather seats get too hot in the summer and are cold in the winter) Alcantara is used in many marine boat environments where it has to deal with brutal conditions and is the material of choice over leather. I have not regretted my choice at all Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
have precious little experience with alcantera on cars or boats and request guidance. Am concerned about specking Pista, especially dash, in alcantara. doesnt it fade, i.e., red turns pink, black turns gray over time or through sun exposure?
I'd take the Alcantara inserts with leather center strip as per 488 FRANCES's - has a nicer blend of materials to the eye than just all out Alcantara everywhere. Pista's intent can still be maintained visually by using Alcantara in certain areas such as the seat inserts, a section of the dash, tunnel and door trims etc. No need to go overboard using either products imho but each to their own.
I have tech fabric in scud and I like it. For durability. I have Alcantara in a 911 gts. Feels great but have been reading that on high use surfaces (steering wheels, seats) it does not hold up long term. I bought ammo fabric cleaner and stay on top of it. So far so good but too soon to tell. Also as I understand it’s a very low cost fabric sold at a premium in high end cars. Does feel great when new.
Image Unavailable, Please Login I’ve mentioned the LaFerrari as an example of a great blend of leather, carbon fiber and Alcantara together. If I’m able to order a car and I use Alcantara at all, it will likely be similar to this - upper dash and upper doors (above the carbon fiber). I’m also still a big fan of glossy carbon over matte. Just my thoughts.
I'd have to go with leather. The couple of Fcars with alcantara just always felt like they were dusty. I prefer the look and feel of leather.
I thought about Alcantara steering wheel wrap but not sure it will work well with the shift lights. If you look at Challenge car shift lights are mounted on the hub not the wheel itself.
The Alcantara looks pretty damn cool on the LaFerrari wheel. It doesn't interfere with the shift because they are set within the carbon fiber portion ont he top.
If I get one it will get tracked for 100% for sure even with some leather in it. You're far better off tracking it than mothballing it. That way you get to experience what the car is all about.
I put 8,000 track miles on a Porsche 993TT with leather 996 GT3 seats. I’ve also tracked my Tailor Made F12 with Poltrano Frau leather and the FF with standard Ferrari leather. The leather has held up well in all three cars, and I never felt like I was sliding around excessively due to the leather. For me, the biggest limiting factor for any of these street Ferraris on track is the lack of a true six-point harness, not the seat material. I will most likely spec leather on the Pista at our October TM appt, and can’t envision being able to resist the temptation to try it out on track. Who has that much willpower or common sense? Mothballing it wouldn’t be my intention at all. I just wouldn’t track it. It will be driven on the road. While I appreciate the cars capabilities, I’m sure those who will actually track theirs will remain a small group of enthusiasts who should enjoy their cars in that way if that gives them maximum pleasure.
Understand, I know these cars can be a bit too precious - mainly due to what we pay - and we all suffer from that phobia to a degree, but I do think you should explore the car's limits on a track at least a few times over the period of ownership. For me, driving these types of cars on the street is a total waste of good mileage unless the roads are up the mountains or somewhere remote where you get on it/up it.
Well, at this point I’m just waiting to see if I get an allocation. I can worry about tracking the car after/if I get one. We’ll see what happens.
I'll get a Pista and life's short I'll track it ! what's the interest get a Pista ? hit on girls on Beverly Hills ?
To be fair everyone has their own way they enjoy a Ferrari. Some look at the vehicle as a piece of art, a sculpture of style and beauty, the way light plays of the surfacing and how one can see air move at each bend, the Pista does this in droves. Some will love the noise and the emotion it demands, others the smell of the leather may remind them of a favorite memory. Then there are those that find their joy and purpose going all out on a track, again to each their own. We all have something that makes this vehicle feel special to us and whatever that is we should celebrate the opportunity if given. I love watches too, particularly dive watches, yet I don’t particularly like water and have never gone SCUBA diving but I appreciate the design and capabilities of the fine timepiece and effort gone into the design and craftsmanship even if I will NEVER EVER test its limit. Just saying, we all have our passions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The 993TT, F12, FF, and yes, 488 Pista are street cars that occasionally see track time. My 2017 Radical SR3 RSX is a race car which I campaign in the North American Masters Series. Not street legal. It has a Nomex-covered Speed Seat insert over a hard plastic shell. One of these things is not like the others. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
