Hi all, I just received my new (to me!) 2017 488 spider. This is my third Ferrari (328GTS and F430) and I am excited to spend more time behind the wheel. A few quick questions:

    1. What does that little round button do? I believe it has to do with the camera system. When I push it nothing happens. My car is equipped with rear camera only.

    2. My car has Rosso stitching on the headrest logos but they appear faded and not bright red. Has anyone figured out a way to restore the red? My seats are in great shape otherwise. 13k miles.

    3. The front hood/frunk releases with the button, but does not pop up and it is hard to visually tell it was popped. I have to pull it up from the side to make room for my hand to release it and open. The hood stays open so the struts appear ok. Perhaps they lost some force? Or, do other 488’s not pop up either?

    Thanks!!

That button is for the rear camera. I never use it as the camera comes on automatic when in reverse. My hood does pop up and my fat fingers can release the lever. As for the stitching you should seek, out a high end upholstery shop and they might be able to dye the thread red again. Looks like your seat stitch faded too in the photos.

The button is for switching from front to rear camera or split screen. i have it also in my 488 even if I do not have a front camera.

I believe the button you’ve questioned is used to turn on the front camera, if a vehicle is so equipped. My car had the button but not the front camera therefore the button served no purpose whatsoever.

The hood - lube the hinges and latching mechanism. Perhaps that will do the trick.

Red stitching turns that purplish/pinkish color when sun damaged OR the wrong chemicals were used to clean. From that one pic, I would say it’s faded from the sun because I can see the seats are very dirty. The black leather is also extremely dirty and/or has some greasy product applied to it. That ‘shine’ you see on your leather means it’s very dirty. Use a proper interior cleaner or diluted APC with a non scratch scotch brite blue pad or magic eraser to clean…. But CAREFULLY. Both those tools are aggressive so don’t apply pressure or scrub.

Thanks. It goes to a high end detail shop today and they will work on the seats. I have another place in mind to try to restore the red logos.

By the way, yes, the stitching can be dyed.

Funny, my detail guy just joked about using a red sharpie! I will show a leather specialist and see what he thinks. Who knows, that may be the answer.

I wasn't kidding. That's what people use on old, dirty fading stitching all the time. I've done it before.

You wanna find out if the stitching is cotton or synthetic. Either way, I vote red sharpie. On my 355 half the interior was black sharpie.

When I got my 458 Italia, some of the thread near the dash was not colored properly. But after a black sharpie, it was. On my 360 Modena, the CF air box lids had a couple of tiny pin hole bubbles in the top coat; which a sharpie made vanish into the background of the carbon weave.

I find that the button only works when reverse gear is engaged and the camera is on. Once pressed it changes the aspect of the rear camera.
