My dealer is now advised he will be allocated the first 488 GTO ( or what ever it's going to be named) production slot for 5/2018 production, can anyone share what criteria a customer must fulfill inorder to qualify for a slot?

That is quite a move backward from the previously expected timing, production beginning in May after an unveiling in March seems to be quite unusual.
Previous rumours were for customer production only beginning at the end of 2018.
Regarding allocation to customers, if it is handled like previous SE cars (i.e special edition, not limited edition) the dealer manages himself and has already established a priority list of customers having placed a deposit.

    ^above poster is right.

Dealer will decide who they give allocations too.

All standard "relationship boosters" apply. Things like having a personal friendship with the dealership managers, or making them alot of money by buying cars, or happening to be their favorite celebrity are all things that will increase your priority.

I was told Ferrari demands that cars are only sold to existing 488 owners as a condition.

I keep reading this - makes no sense. What if you have a TDF, Speciale, Lusso, 16M, and F40? Sorry, Joe, I know you bring your 5 Ferraris to our dealership for service and repairs and you've purchased 20 cars from us over the past 15 years, but you didn't buy a 488, so too bad!!! I'm obviously exaggerating for effect, as no dealer would offend Ferrari Joe by not giving him an allocation, but I think if you've shown loyalty to the brand and your dealer over the years, just because you didn't buy or don't current own a 488, that shouldn't be detrimental to your status.

I made this exact point, not quite as well, as the chances of someone owning an LF, TDF, F40 etc and not a regular production car like a 488 are very good, and as you say, sorry not VS for you. I don't buy it.

The 488 requirement would probably be for someone with no or little Ferrari history..........

This has been answered on other threads. The simple fact is that dealers have not been given allocation guidelines yet. They speculate, but they do not know for sure. They DO know that this time Ferrari will impose some sort of allocation guideline and they know it will have something to do with 488 ownership. You should expect this to be clarified next month when dealers see the car in Maranello. I know of several people that have been told 488 owners will get priority and I know of at least one person who is not a 488 owner who was told he cannot have a car for the first 12 months of production, but this is all dealer-talk, not fact. I have a pre-order for the car and despite being a 488 owner and a long standing client with LE cars, my dealer has informed me that they are re not in a position to confirm anything until they receive official guidelines from the factory. I hope this helps. In my personal opinion, they will prioritise people with 488 and people who bought the CS, Scuderia, Speciale series of cars. That does not mean that owners of important Ferrari cars with no 488 will not get it, or that a promising customer who wants to buy one towards the end of production will not get it either. This is not a limited car, so if you really want one, you will probably get one

I’m sure any customer who has a strong buying history with Ferrari will have the opportunity to order the car, regardless of whether they have a 488 or not.
