Hi - first post on the forum though I’ve been lurking quite a while. TLDR: can anyone recommend some longer-lasting steel brakes for my 488 Spider that sees moderate track usage? Long Version: I have 2 Year old 488 Spider that I track a bit (10-15 track days per season) in Europe. However, I’m having trouble with brake wear - a set of front pads will last me about 1.5 track days (which is a real issue for a 2-day event at, say, Spa). Hence, I’ve been looking for some longer-lasting brake pads. However, I’m already at 50% front rotor wear now, and am concerned that putting on harder pads might increase wear further.... These two issues are compounded to make my Ferrari too unstable/expensive to actually drive like I would want to. Does anyone have experience with a set of steel disks and racing pads that they can recommend? I’m not too worried about brake squeal - the factory system has always done that anyways. I’m not to worried about resale value either (can always swap back I guess). Basically I’m just tired of using my Cayman GT4 for tracking as the Ferrari is just too much hassle... Thoughts?
I haven't done it myself, but I've had success with girodisc and pagid RS-29 pads on a heavier car, so I think it would work on a 488. Two days should be the goal for pads. The car is faster and heavier than a Cayman. Both hurt brake pad life. Whatever you try, keep us posted. I've been itching to get back into track days, but I'm afraid I'd cook the stock setup.
