Hey guys, not to bring up a sore subject, I find the automated GIF in the attached link a little odd. This was posted on Ferrari's website and to their Facebook page. The image of the tach looks different from what I've seen in many pictures. The rpm lines are in a different place, and as you can see, they're openly showing the car revving to 8000 rpm over and over again.

    Thoughts??

So not accurate. When hitting the limiter it jumps more. The needle does not stay steady at 8k like it does in the link

What was extra interesting to me is that the tach doesn't look the same as the pictures of the tachs I've seen. The 8000 RPM marker looks totally different to me than the tach in card I've sat in.

Why don't those who own a 488 never chime in and set the record straight on this and even give us a small video clip of the needle hitting get 8k????
Never have I seen a new released ferrari with such low publicity with very quite owners.
Was there some special disclaimer wording that no one's allowed to shed any light on this car?
Even on YouTube there isn't anything on gtboard and the like to show us even the speed of it in a head to head.
    Why??

Even funnier, go to Ferrari's site, enter the 488 Spider Car Configurator, go to the "Cockpit" and enlarge the tach. All White numbers out to and including 8000, and the Red starts at what logically would be 9000, but when you blow it up it is also shows 8000!! (at least to my eyes, and perhaps just an oversight)

In the actual car, revs drop to 6500-6600 in the first 2-3 shifts. This image is wrong.

Ok I'm an owner and ill set the record straight :

With launch control only the car redlined at 8000rpm
Without launch control the car redlined at 7800rpm in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear and 7500rpm in 4-7th gear. I found this info in the owners manual and confirmed it myself.

I would agree Ferrari was misleading on this and I was a bit disappointed . But after driving the car a while I don't really miss the extra revs much and the sound is still good (great for a turbo) although not as good as its NA brother. Overall, I love the car!

The markers are there in both photos, just hidden in the first one due to lighting.

What are you seeing? The only difference I can see is that the black faced dial has '7,500' printed on it.

Ah, no, the markers are there, they're just not showing due to the lighting. Here it is with a really nasty adjustment to pick them out...

I can't help but wonder if the RPM range will change if tuned. Maybe frankiefred can chime in. It's an interesting prospective for those considering something like a NR upgrade. Maybe it could be changed without actually adding power. I mean simply change the limiter without raising the boost.

Sounds like the engine might be quite blowupable with all this rev limiting so I'm not sure I'd risk it.

I think the engine capability is high, Ferrari took a margin of power with the GTB, 488 speciale will be phenomenal

I seriously doubt that. I can't imagine that they use internals of lesser strength in this than they did in the 458. It's a smaller engine with a lighter rotating assembly. I have a feeling that it's all about power management. When Ferrari tested and built the Cali T, it had 580 hp. But Ferrari did not want the Cali T to be more powerful than the 458 so they decreased the boost. I would not be surprised if this is a "band-aid" solution in terms of not having the car outperform the TDF or the upcoming F12 replacement or something of that nature. Just a thought.

Btw. Does anyone remember what the Cali T revs to? It's been a while since I've been in one.
