Ferrari in South Africa sells the 488 design wheel for 458 with corrected width and offsets, just looking at all my options
That doesn't sound correct. Be careful. This is not necessary as the 488 wheels fit on the 458 already with no issues. It would take a hell of allot of effort to make them identical offsets and widths. Sounds like they are just telling you this and using the factory wheels as is. 458 wheels are Front 8.5J X 20 ET 46.5mm, Rear 10.5J X 20 ET 58.5 mm 488 wheels are Front 9J X 20 ET 44.7, Rear 11J X 20 ET 38.5 mm
Interesting, I would like to see that. They have not done anything like that over here anyway since the Scuderia wheels from the F430 Scud. They made wheels for the normal F430 cars that looked like the scud. Only difference between the 2 sets of wheels was a 7.5" width for the front wheels on a normal F430 compared to a 8" width on the scud. The rears were identical. I wouldn't think the 488 were so desirable to 458 owners to warrant remaking the wheels in different sizes. You learn something new every day. Thanks.
They are proposed as part of the "Genuine" program for the 458, apparently: http://auto.ferrari.com/en_EN/ferrari-genuine-accessories/equipments/000000000000002/detail/P000000210/ http://ferrari-cdn.thron.com/delivery/public/image/ferrari/304ec538-2624-408b-b904-2d1fa3f174ce/zjhlqe/std/960x0/458-Italia
Its millimeter's. So using a 488 wheel on a 458 is basically this. The front wheels of the 488 are a half inch wider than the 458 and stick outboard further in the wheel well by 1.8MM which is nothing, basically PERFECT. The rears are more aggressive. They 488 rears wheels are also a half inch wider then the 458 rear and they stick outboard in the wheel well by 20MM. Hence the aggressive look on the rear of the 458 cars using 488 wheels. I personally like the wider rear stance and still no rubbing or any issues. This picture is a great demonstration of that. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually if you look close those are FF wheels. They are almost a dead ringer in specs w/the 458 wheels. FF specs Front 8.5J X 20 ET 46.5, Rear 10.5J X 20 ET 53.4 mm 458 specs Front 8.5J X 20 ET 46.5mm, Rear 10.5J X 20 ET 58.5 mm Here is a FF wheel (first pic) and then a 488 wheel. They are very similar in looks but different. On a different note, I noticed the catalogue showed these wheels also.... I think these would look great on the 458.I have never seen them installed on a car with the ball polished finish, we have a set coming in this week. Thanks, OK... From a post above, 458 specs are Front 8.5J X 20 ET 46.5mm, Rear 10.5J X 20 ET 58.5 mm which is indeed closer (and exactly the same for front) to the FF specs you quote Front 8.5J X 20 ET 46.5, Rear 10.5J X 20 ET 53.4 mm
Yes as you can see they fit and look great and you run factory 458 tires. We currently have the dark matte grey new in stock for a great deal if anybody is interested. $5500 delivered new with caps in the USA. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
These are beautiful wheels. How much for a set? Do they make this in a diamond cut as well? This would be for a 458 Spider. Thx
I am wondering is your car is at the standard stock height or if you lowered it at all? It looks great. I have had trouble with the the traction control coming on in Sport mode. My assumption is that I used the 488 tires from my 488 and put them on the 458. I would need to go to different tire size as you have done above in order to "balance" the car for traction control. Any advice on that?
Hey Sean, I think the 488 tires, 305s, are too wide for the 458 electronics on the rear suspension. Besides that, don’t the 305s stick out past the rear fender line? My 458 with the 488 wheel and the 295s are flush with the fender line; anything wider would be outside the rear fender.
those FF wheels look fantastic on the yellow car how much do they weigh in comparison to standard 458 rims?
Llenroc, typically I would say you are absolutely correct. However, I purchased custom wheels from Strasse and the fronts are 20" at 245/35 and the rears are 325/30. That sticks out. So, when I put my 488 wheels on my 458, the Michelin Pilots fit at 305. The Perelli tires did not fit. They are more round. I can snap a picture for you. When I discussed this with Strasse, they told me the electronics are more sensitive to height and not width. But it appears you went with 295/35 in the rear and not 30. I wonder if that is less height than the 305/30. It has to be close, but my sensors still come on in Sport only. I am not sure what to do. But I guess I need to go back to 295/35.
Your traction control is coming in because your front to rear overall tire height ratio is screwed up. This happens many times with track day guys who don’t pay attention to this spec and the car drives like a mess with the Nannie’s kicking on all the time because the computer thinks a wheel is spinning-losing traction. 488 rear is 305/30/20 overall diameter is 27.2” 458 rear is 295/35/20 overall diameter is 28.1 488 front is 245/35/20 overall diameter is 26.I 458 front is 235/35/20 overall diameter is 26.5 The difference front to rear ratio on a 458 is 1.6” The difference front to rear ratio on a 488 is 1.1” That 1/2” difference between 458 and 488 and enough to have the computer think the tire is losing traction. I know in the Porsche world around .3” tolerance is ok to a point. Maybe Ferrari is tighter spec. I’d always shoot to keep overall tire height ratio between front and rear stock or no more that .1 or .2 inch. If on your 458 you going to use 245/45/20 26.1” diameter on front you’ll need a rear diameter of 1.6” larger, around 27.7” …. So 315/30/20.
