How can Ferrari screw such an amazing car with such a poor auto box and a piss poor GPS System ? The car is fabulous to drive in F1 , sounds amazing ( Sport GT ) , looks superb but in this market not everyone cares that much about taking the apex on a mountain road and downshifting in tunnels. The GPS looks like it was built/designed in 1987 ( as does the Radio interface ) and the auto box was so jerky that it reminded me my afa prior to changing the GB at 90.000 kms ( the 4p i had had 1200 kms .. )
I have one and I love it! Had several BMW 7 series before that....this is another level.......sheer driving pleasure slogan should have been reserved for the Maserati....BMW was good and fun but QP is more fun. And yes I do downshift in tunnels now.... OK the F1 could be a bit better (but after a week you learn how to use it smoothly) and the trunk a bit bigger .... but I love it....my favorite car so far (until the kids grow up and I can buy the F430 ;-) )
well it's less than half the price but hey if they build a real 4 door ferrari even better.....The QP is basically a F430 block, F360 F1 and scaglietti body paited at ferrari and assembled in Maserati sold at half the price of a Ferrari....
Tad , Just took one pic , we test drove the car to be sure we loved it http://img143.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img77210ua.jpg
Very nice . Not hard/hars at all . I spent 10 days with a BMW 760i before driving this and didnt see much difference in the ride which was almost shocking as i wonder how did they manage to make this car so comfortable and yet so sticked to the road with no boat-like drive.
I saw it at Geneva Moto Show this year and I will tell that I love this design and intrior trim ! I am pretty sure you haven't seen this maser from this angle Image Unavailable, Please Login
The F430 has what is basically a Maserati block and is sold for twice the price of the Maserati. I'm sure they had both cars in mind when they designed though. Bob S.
I thought rumour has it that a 4P with a "proper" autobox will be released later this year. If that is true, this car is basically complete
True Auto will rob the car with at least 10% loss of power and torque(torque converter)and Quattroporte is already suffering from the lack of it. Sure it does need the new tranny but it needs a more powerful engine even more,612's V12 would be ideal.(the only thing that keeps me from buying that car so far)
rumour is the new ZF real automatic will also get a 4.7litre 470Hp updated engine so the performance difference with the F1 version will disappear since the F1 will stick with the 400Hp version.....Will the updated engine be Ferrari sourced also? In that case we know the F430 will eventually be followed by an F480 with around 560Hp (470Hp Maserati divided by 7.100rpm times 8.500 ferrari rpm).......only rumours we'll know in September?
I agree with absent! But the V12 is totally off the table as the car doesn`t hove the space for that engine under the bonnet. If they would have designed the car from the beginning with a V12 (and V8) they would have been sold 30% more of them. The engine of the 612 Scaglietti -a car that is NOT the bestseller of Ferrari!- would have been the perfect motor for such a car. Of course nobody needs a V12 when a sedan has a 400 hp engine. "But its the image, stupid" as Billy C. always mentioned! Ciao! Walter
The "new" QPV will get a stronger engine together with a 6-speed auto box! That makes sence as only very few people on this planet will drive such a car in the way Mr. Schumacher drives his F1. Also our fellow americans looooooooooove auto-boxes! And I agree as its much more conveniand to drive such a big car in the daily jams very relaxed only with your right foot. the QPV is a success and will become a bigger one with that new features. Ciao! Walter
I drove a 745i before buying the QP. The 745i has one of the best ZF 6-speed automatics but I would buy an F1 again. Just much more fun to drive! I am too lazy for a manual but a full torque converting automatic is boring. F1 is the best of both worlds if you don't drive a lot in stop-go traffic. The F1 could be slightly better (especially in stop/go) but apparantly the one of the new Sport GT is ....So an automatic is for those that buy the Maserati for the name, the sound/motor and the looks. The F1 is for people who want to drive it as it was designed: a 4-door sports car.... Not sure a V12 saloon would be in such demand? Especially a sport saloon. Think audi will have more demand for its S8 then its W12....Moreover now Maserati positions its V8QP against the V12 BMW's and Audi's....difficult to position/price a V12 QP it would be very expensive....
Reminds me of the time I was at a tire store getting new set for my Land Rover. A then-new Merc CL 500 just finished getting a new set of bling wheels when the tech removed the the "5" from the badge on the trunk with some dental floss. I was wondering what he was doing until he carefully replaced the missing number with a "6". Next he moved on the front fenders were he carefully placed authentic looking "V-12" badges. Voila, the $90,000 CL500 was transformed into a $130,000 CL600.
As I always say: nobody really needs a Ferrari, Lamborghini, RR, Merc, Porsche, BMW, Jag. Aston-M. or even a Maserati. High image brands they are - but if you have the cash you need to feed your ego. And that`s absolute OK. On this the system or economy in build on. Same with fahion brands and real estates. But now some pimps are coming up with less cash in their pockets and try to get involved in the "big game" by "upgrating" their cars. Fools they are..... btw., good to hear that the stupid Hummer-GT-version is now off the otions. As a UK-magazine wrote recently: The Hummer is something for Hip-Hop-, Rap-stars and people with a small "Willy"!! Ciao! Walter
