Thats pretty crazy, and I can see the car being worth quite a pretty penny being the first... but does that mean the first mustang ever was, a convertible?
I could see this ending up in a museum somewhere... but it's nice they worked out a financing option just in case :)

How drunk would you have to be to think that was a good deal?

It reminds me, Barrett-Jackson is a little over a week from now.

When someone ressurects the green Mustang Fastback driven by Steve McQueen in the film Bullitt (and has since disappeared), you'll see these prices again.....

I don't think just cause someone says it's worth 5M that it's actually worth that much. First Mustang or not, it's still a Mustang, not like it's the first ever Ferrari or Corvette. Maybe if it was the first car Ford ever built than I could see it worth that.....

Domestic car prices have been skyrocketing lately, and this really is a seminal car. I think it would pull down double whatever it sells for had it been the actual first Mustang, not just the first Mustang convertible, but I think you'll see a surprising value out of this car. Certainly not $5.5 million, of course.

I suppose it could be worse. It's only 1/7 the cost of the car if it were made out of pure gold.

Im pretty sure this is the first mustang ever. The first cars were verts and the coupes werent introduced till 1965 while the verts were introduced halfway through the 1964 MY thus the 1964.5 listings one sometimes sees.

So it's the first convertible Mustang ever built. What else makes this car warrant the millions of dollars over the usual price for a Mustang Conv. (of the same generation) in excellent condition? Not much from what I can see.

You're a little mixed up. The first Mustang made was revealed to the public at the 1964 World's Fair and was a coupe. Convertibles soon followed. The model you're thinking of, that wasn't released until 1965, was the fastback.

well, what the article says is...."First ever Mustang Convertible"........and "Car classifieds site ClassicMuscleCars.com is presenting a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang Convertible claiming it is the first Mustang ever built and also the first to be sold one day before the official launch." which leads me to believe that it's just being advertised as the first Mustang by that particular site......

However after some digging...........this may be the first Mustang, the only way to find out for sure would be to get the vin#....

    I LOL'd at that post.

I was expecting some "I like muscle cars now" post, but that was HILARIOUS.

5.5 Million is about 5.5 Million times what i would pay for a mustang.
