Anyone here know anything about 70's (I think) chairs? My parents bought this house next door to theirs from an old couple. They're getting rid of any remaining furniture, and while I wouldn't put these in my house, these chairs caught my eye. They are in good shape and clearly old (i.e. vintage, not reproductions).

Toss in the dumpster or try eBay? (Sorry for the crappy cell pics)

    Thanks in advance.

    HERESY to consider them castoffs.

eBay means shipping. Shipping means these will have to be packaged properly.

Surely, given your location, where history is appreciated, there are several local vintage shops that you'll be able to bargain or barter with.

The may have something you really like, for an even trade, resulting in Win/Win.

Who knows, particularly since the woven fabrics are in such great shape, perhaps someone will part with a lot of Benjamins.

Nevertheless, wait for informed opinions... some may actually suggest having items appraised.

If so, to protect yourself from receiving 100 instead of 1000 for one thing or another, it will be best to know what certain items are worth before contacting recommended local appraiser.

In the meantime, don't disturb one thread or put one nick on the chairs... while you look for labels or stamps indicating manufacturer/designer of these remarkably well-kept woven fabric 50's-60's Modernist chairs, table, and so forth that aren't just in the living room, but, throughout the house, what with dressers, lamps and smaller pieces, each with a distinct mark or engraving of their own.

    HERESY!

Thanks to everyone who has responded!
It's fantastic to hear these may actually be something... Guess I do have a bit of an eye.

Told my parents to have them checked out and absolutely not discard them. Wouldn't want to commit heresy, as Was says.

Thanks again -- I'm still interested in other thoughts about these, if anyone wants to give them.

BTW, anyone know a trustworthy appraiser in Austin, Texas?
Steve is there another way to get these appraised "from afar"? I asked my folks to check carefully for labels on the furniture.

    Cheers,
    J.

UPDATE: had my folks look under the chairs/table and this is what they report so far:

"I checked the markings - made in Denmark was printed on one of the smaller chairs, and the coffee table was DUX made in Sweden. So I guess they are all authentic Scandinavian left over from the 70s or earlier."

(I guess they are more like 50's - 60's, but at least we know they appear to be Scandanavian...)

    Hey

Those are definately danish furniture (chairs) - They look like Børge Mogensen. They might be worth a lot more than you think. Danish design is worth a lot of money, both old and new.

Is this where they are located?

I do not know any appraisers, but I can tell you the style in certainly in demand around here. Even at value price, listing them on craigslist would certainly get a few hits. You'll get some low ballers in regards to college kids wanting vintage furniture, but someone in this town would love to get their mits on that stuff.

I know a few people who might be interested, but neither would pay high dollar for them.

Yep, chairs are in Austin, TX.
And a some Fchatters have been very helpful with advice, so we now know to have them properly appraised and find the market for them.

To those of you who PM'd me, thanks very much -- I'm just coordinating with my folks (chairs are at my parents' place) to see how they will handle, and then I will definitely respond to the PMs.

    Thanks again,
    J.
