    Yes it was. Bob Varsha made a point of sending out best wishes to Dan on the occasion.

    Not only was it mentioned, but Varsha recited an obscure Gurney "triumph", which took place in the 1968 GP of Germany. At the original 14 mile-per-lap Nurburgring, this was the famous rain race won by Jackie Stewart in a Matra. Dan cut a tire, had to drive 9 miles with a flat, changed it, and then proceeded to lap at speeds as fast as, it was said, Stewart himself. 9th place was not justice for this result. Incidentally, while Varsh didn't recount this, it was the last time the Eagle was to finish a GP race.
