512 BB HELP D:! Need to find VIN

It should be embossed on top of the steering wheel column, inside the car close to the dash.

 

Do you mean VIN or chassis no ? Prior to the eighties there were no VIn

 

As Drew said, right on top of the steering column, between the wheel and the dash. It'll only be five numbers (my old 1979 BB was 28633) so don't expect or look for a typical long vin number.

Should be a frame designation, then five numbers between stars.
Like on my 308GTB:

F106AB*22127*

A later Boxer after 1981 should have a 17 digit VIN.
They should have a plate in the door jam also?

 

This is from memory but I think the chassis stamp is in the engine compartment drivers side top member close to the distributor.
