I do not know that car, but it is the carbureted twin to my car. Mine has Boxer paint, which was more rare at the end of the run. This car may be a respray that went full gloss. The Boxer book will tell you, or someone here may know.

I think Rock's auto restoration in Toronto should know it. You could try to contact him or Newman.

Are you sure that is not the correct steering wheel for 1979? When I look up images it looks the same. Being a new follower, I would like to know for sure. Thanks

    Good day David,

The current steering wheel looks to be from 308 QV Series... which is a later design. I suspect it would be more like the one I have attached (this is from a 1979 308, but is the same as my 1977 BB). That being said if this is the only issue with the car, then this is relatively minor and easy to rectify.

Just from a cursory view, I can see that it has an aftermarket exhaust (which is fine) and the tires do not look to the XWX's, which I would suspect would be what should be on the car. I say suspect, as I later BBs where shod with Metric Rims with TRX tires. I am sure others will correct me, but it would be important to know what rims would have been OEM, as finding staggered width 15" rims will cost you a bit... Also, replacing tires with correct ones will cost you over $2K.

Regardless of my comments you really need to have a thorough PPI done on this to ensure you understand where the car is at and what it needs, otherwise you can spend a lot of $$$ pretty quick sorting things out.

    Cheers,

    Sam

The wheel is incorrect on the ebay car. Its a nice looking car for sure and I wouldnt mind owning it myself. Things I would want to know before buying it is the chassis number, whether it was DOT converted or not and if its been hit. Its been painted, was it black originally? The rear air box covers look glossy as do the blacked out areas around them, they should be satin as well as the rear spoiler. Looks very correct otherwise. Look for chromodora lettering on the 4 rims especially the rears.

Here's a picture of the steering wheel in my 1979 BB (28633).

The tires don't look like the correct XWX Michelins, but those are generally available if you'd want to go back to the stock tire, but a bit pricy.

The wheels look like the correct ones, but like Newman said, check for the Chromodora lettering.

Get the vin and post it here if you can!

Books? Tools? Service History? Paint Problems? Federalization?

Could be a decent project but why would anyone list a Ferrari Boxer and only include 3 sentences about the car?

I would want to ask more questions. And considering the steering rack can swing from tight to loose on these cars, I'd want to drive it as well. If you get one with a loose/bad steering rack, it's like driving a 1969 Porsche 911 in the rain - with a flat tire.

You also need a photo of the dashboard leather where it meets the glass on the drivers side, looking down through the windscreen. These cars have a history of leather pulling away from the glass due to the heat, which requires leather to be refitted over the dashboard.

Not the end of the world, but watch the money on this one. There could be someone bidding who just want's it no matter what but the safe money is under $90k considering engine/systems/leather work to be done and books/tools to make the car complete. A clutch, a major service, paintwork and leather refresh will cost you every bit of $25,000.

    Just my opinion of course.

$25k seems quite low for all that work...I could imagine a proper repaint would take up a considerable portion of that amount, if not the entire $25k.

You're quite right. I'm only talking about bumper resprays, rock chips and putting the airboxes correct again. Yes, if the car needs to be painted (and it might) it will take $45,000-$60,000 to sort out. Good point.

The problem with these cars is the price spread between good and garbage isnt great enough to cover the cost to correct one. The other problem is finding a great one so you either never get one because you wait forever for the right one or you just pay the piper and have a carbed BB. I feel its worth more than $90K although getting one for that would be wonderful. I paid more than that for my 79 with the engine sitting on the floor beside it!
