I have a '77 512 bb. I had the rear valence and bumper repainted about 2 years ago. The challenge that I am having is that the paint on the middle section of the bumper is beginning to crack and peal. That particular section of the bumper is just behind the muffler and it seems to get very hot. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you remedy the situation?

Thank you. I contacted the paint shop today and I am bringing it up there tomorrow. Do they make an undercoating that is designed to work as a heat shield?

Look into LizardSkin ceramic insulation. I used it on my project.

Have you considered placing an fiberglass/foil insulation blanket on the underside/inside of the rear bumper to protect the paint? Also you may consider a heat sheild made of the same material on a thin metal plate to deflect the heat away from the bumper. Best of luck in you quest to resolve the issue.

I would double up. I like heat shields that allow some air between the shield and what you are protecting. Then on the item you want to protect, I would consider Lizard Skin or similar.

Had the same issue when my BB was painted, the paint kept bubbling off due to gasses soaking in the glass over time, I think they stripped it again and let it bake in the paint booth oven all day to fix so paint would stick

I agree it must be the repaint job.
My 79BB has original paint back there, and is still in fine condition, no bubbles or cracks. John

possibly, your car has aftermarket ansa exhaust. If so this two case muffler is too close to the rear bumber. We have repainted many rear bumbers over the years.
install an internal sheild or install the stock exhaust.
