Beautiful. The whole K-Jet and induction assembly looks great but I'm REALLY looking forward to what you're gonna do with a Motec EFI or similar setup. All that plumbing will change. I am envisioning a custom plenum and some sort of subtle variable intake geometry that still says "Boxer." Hope to meet you one day.
The amount of work and detail you are putting in this is just stunning. The car is looking just perfect, cant wait to see her completed, enjoy her in good health and i hope it is everything you expect !! Whatever you do, dont sell it !!!
Back end, engine, engine bay and rear brakes are all being assembled still. Painful... 2 steps forward 1 step backward he whole way. We also designed Boxer-like wheels, and had them CNC'd - coming together finally. Trying to make Monterey by the August 17th, it'll be close! Mark these new wheels look very unique. I like them a lot more than the other wheels I saw on your car. The design reminds you of speedlines a little. They will make the car look more period original, the other wheels look like any other over the top custom rims. Gene
Mark, if you make pebble, please post where the car will be, don't want to miss it. Are you thinking concorso italiano, or the quail? thanks, mark
Prediction: That car goes to a show and you'll need to hire crowd control. This thing is a "rule breaker". Not a lot of tastefully modded Ferraris, since those two words have often been at odds in F-car circles. I believe many will fawn over this car who will have a tough time explaining their 'new' opinion of "non 100% authentic down to the air in the tires". Oh, I just love it. I sure wish I was going, and one day I hope to see that ride in all its carbon fiber and polished aluminum glory. Really fine work Mark. Best wishes.
Yeah Baby, she's coming along now! I like the wheels; a little more modern looking, but not too much. 17"/18"? Fantastic job all the way around! John
Mark, I'm going to concorso italiano. My ticket is at will call I guess so I don't know where I'll be. Please try to look me up. Geno, thanks - I like the new wheels soooo much better. I'll hopefully see you in Monterrey? Adams, no California?? Pebble Beach has become a must attend event for me!! Are you goinf to Cavalino in Fl? John, they're 19's. I wanted the same combined wheel and tire height as the originals. A few pics from today - we made good progress in the last few days. (just kidding on the calipers) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think that this car is going to REALLY make a lot of people re-think their position on keeping things "original". This goes well beyond the "resto-modding" of classic hot rods. In many respects, it makes me think that this car has influences from both the F40 and more modern cars. It is almost like your changes/enhancements are similar to what a modern day version of the Boxer would be utilizing. I don't even want to ask how much this restoration is costing you, although I would love to know... Lee
Mark, Looks excellent......but dont show Newman, he'll go nuts if you spent more than 20K I couldnt resist Paul....im sorry, im bad
Mark, in the last set of images I see that you have 2 calipers on the rear rotor... I see that the calipers are the PBR made Z06 vette units, which are nice 6pot front and 4 pot rear units. What have you done with the brake master cylinder volume and size and proportioning to accomodate so much piston volume in the rear? In the current state, the rear will have way too much piston area, and the brake balance is bady biased to the rear from OE. Also your pedal travel will be feather soft, and possibly dangerous as you will run out of stroke to reach high pressure decel requirements. The OE MC can not fill 6 calipers safely...I hope you have modified the hydraulic system to match.. but I cant see the point of 4 rear calipers, which will only throw too much bias to the back....? Why not just use the 6 pot units at all 4 corners and use a prop valve to set the rear balance? Cheers Eric
I noticed that too but he mentioned (briefly if you check closely) that the calipers were a joke. The hubs had mounts on both sides making the part fit either side to reduce manufacturing costs (or to add another caliper?).
By Eliminating front brakes all together and doubling up in the rear , you will be creating the ideal reverse ultra drift scenario ! this is catching on in Japan and Dubai as we speak, it resembles ice racing without cleats or ice. The Idea is to get up to speed , cock the wheel left or right and slam on the rears , thus causing Olympic Quality 1080's.
Awesome! This will be the king of all boxers IMHO. If you are going to Cavallino I would love to see it (although it might not be allowed based on last years entries). Great, clean looks. BT
This is the most stunning restoration I've ever seen. Absolutely Incredible. Nice work. I love the seats.
About 3 weeks to Concorso - it'll be close! So much to do. Still don't have the new wheels yet, but I'm back and forth on the Kinensis. They're growing on me. Lots and lots of trim detail to go (finally got the rear grill today) and yes, she still sits too high for me - we haven't adjusted her ride height yet. The carbon box behind the seats is a (gasp) subwoofer - still fabricating, the front will be Alcantara with a Cavalino logo.
