does the 512 M have power assisted drive?
NONE OF THE FERRARI TESTAROSSA MODELS HAD POWER STEERING.....MOST HEAVY WHEN IT IS PARKED , LIGHTEST ON HIGH WAY SPEED... NO AIR BAGS NO ABS... 1994 AND 1995 ONLY MODELS WITH ABS....
True again. But, you learn how to park with least amount of lock. Having driven both a Mondial and a 355 with P/S, I can tell you honestly that I would rather have the traditional unassisted feel of the Testarossa as is (both seemed more than a little on the light side to me) - and yes, I have other P/S sports cars.
For those interested. I would cut it out at 30 mph to preserve the feel. Pricey though. http://www.flamingriver.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/category_id=210/home_id=210/mode=cat/cat210.htm John
Yep, I'm more than aware of that. Merely trying to understand this thread. It's original starting post had (has) me confused as to the authors meaning.
it is power sterring i refer to. i have a 1992 512TR and the car has ultra heavy stering in low speed and parking. do you recomend those power sterring conversions?
I have never seen a conversion completed but it would certainly be very interesting to have such a great car that you could actually park without popping a prostrate, yet remained perfect at speed as they are. Mazda also use an electrical power steering shaft in late models. Might be worth a further look.
James, your comments are spot on. I owned a 355 and the PS always bothered me, esp. at higher speeds. I much prefer the feedback from the non-assisted TR/M even though it is a bit difficult at VERY slow speeds.
thanks for the help. does anyone know the price of this conversions? i would love one you could turn off when the speed gets higher. thank you
Here is one source: http://www.ezpowersteering.nl/index.php?p=0&lang=en They already make a kit for the 308/328. John
Power steering Next thing you know it will be paddle shifters because it is to hard to shift. Come on now, man up and drive the beast
I totally agree and you should disconnect the brake booster while your at it. Real men don't need no stinking power brakes. John
Be careful, youngster I been driving mine for almost 20 years but now less and less as I pass 70 and have some health issues so now I spend most of my seat time in my 430 or 575. Electric steering makes sense to me.
I guess I have 20 more years to enjoy my beast By then hopefully Ill be able to afford an easier to drive Ferrari
My uncle is in the same boat (71) and It's either get rid of the TR or see about integrating electric power assist.
