My friend's 512 TR has undergone a nearly complete conversion to M specs. A few months ago, a brand new M motor and transmission were installed, along with M wheels, suspension, brakes, and interior bits (dash and steering wheel). Just yesterday, he had new front and rear bumpers installed. While he does have the head lights he decided not to install them due to their size and his distaste for how they looked. The bumpers and wheels really update the look of the car IMO.

Cool cool car! Was it only US spec cars that had those front lights? I've always preferred the 512TR over the M because of the looks. But with this style of front lights I think I would take an M. What are the other differences?

    Thanks

    Dear Ferraristi,

While I've never been a fan of the "m", the lack of under glass headlights keeps the front looking clean. To me, the M's front was just way too cluttered.

    This looks so much better.

Even the older hood without the F 40 intake ducts looks better.

Looks good, I'd just have kept the TR wheels, but other than that it looks good. I think the M lights with TR hood would look good as well.

My friend did a trial install of the M hood and lights but the lights were way too huge, both glass area and assembly itself. The assembly is very long and digs into the trunk space. I'm not sure, but maybe the assembly is so long due to old technology for the ballasts of the lights, assuming they're Xenon(???) Not sure. The lights are wierd in that they have a square bulb and round bulb, kinda like the F40 but the F40 has a rectangle and round bulb which looks mildly better.

He said that the motor, suspension and brakes made big improvements.

I'll let him know of your comments both good and bad.

no offense meant to you or your friend, but the question that came to me when i saw the opening line was just 'why?'.

totally his choice of course, but your friend has spent a lot of time and money to take a perfectly good car and create a mongrel, and arguably taken the best looking car in the tr line and converted it (almost entirely) to the least good looking car in the tr line.... to each his own i guess, but i dont understand the motive at all.

I recalled the steering wheel looking slightly different, but what was difference on the dash and interior components between 512TR & M- Can you post pics?

It is now one of a kind TR 512M. By the way, he owns more than one TR so modifiying this one was for fun. we love having him around us...

I enjoy seeing and reading about all cars standard or modified. It is irrelevant if I understand the owners motives or choices-thank goodness for creativity, free thinking and individualism

+1. But think the original is still the best looking. I know we don't buy these cars to make money, but should you ever need or want to sell, this will certainly hurt the cars value in years to come.

I never heared anything of ANY of these differences in motor, suspension and brakes ... and imo the do NOT exist !

(And yes of course I know the M has other little changes in the engine but this give no real change)

I was just going to say the same, car looks gorgeous.

Any reason he simply didn't buy a M?
